Marathi actor Vijay Kadam has passed away today. He was 68. One of the best known faces of the Marathi industry he worked in films, TV and theatre. He died after a long battle with cancer at his Mumbai residence. His friend actor Jaywant Wadkar told ANI, “He had been courageously fighting cancer. Initially, he recovered but his health eventually deteriorated. Around 25 days ago, he even got an acidity attack.” 

Vijay Kadam was the husband of Padmashri Joshi. She is the sister of Pallavi Joshi. He is also related to actor Alankar Joshi who was a famous child actor in Bollywood. Praising his friend, Wadkar further said, “He was extremely talented. From Marathi cinema to Hindi films, he explored different kinds of projects in his decades-long career. It's impossible to find an actor like him again. His death has left a void in the industry. He's like my family.” 

His death has been condoled on social media as well. Producer and film business expert Girish Johar said it was an irreparable loss for the industry. A number of personalities from the world of Marathi politics have also mourned his death. The last rites are happening now at the Andheri-Oshiwara crematorium. He is survived by his wife, Padmashri Joshi and a son. 

Kadam rose to prominence with his work on Marathi theatre. He is known as a ‘Diggajj’ artiste in all Marathi stage lovers. In his career, he has worked in plays like ‘Turtur’, ‘Vichha Mazi Puri Kara’ and ‘Pappa Sanga Kunache’.
