Trailer Review - The Ghazi Attack

It has been two years since Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), and it would appear as if Karan Johar's fetish for South Indian cinema is nowhere close to wearing off. Dharma Productions and AA Films proudly present the Hindi and Telugu versions of the bilingual war-drama The Ghazi Attack, the trailer of which released recently. Produced by PVP cinema and Matinee Entertainment, the film is said to be inspired by true events that took place during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. While debutant Sankalp Reddy takes charge of the lens, the movie features Rana Daggubati and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles, along with the late Om Puri, Kay Kay Menon, Satyadev Kancharana, Atul Kulkarni, Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Rahul Singh and Akshay Mittal in supporting roles.

 

The story is based on the Indian Navy's classified mission planned in retaliation to the Pakistani submarine, PNS Ghazi, with a more emotional insight into the soldiers' lives. To begin with, the trailer opens with Amitabh Bachchan's powerful baritone giving a brief background of the episode thereafter. Flowing in chronological order, we see the Pakistani army plotting against INS Vikrant and
how the Indian Navy sends out its best officers, Arjun Varma, Lt. Commander (Daggubati) and Captain Rannvijay Singh (Menon), to scrutinize the enemy's movements. What follows is a rough eighteen days at war, under the sea, and a spirit of undying patriotism and determination.

 

Well, The Ghazi Attack does seem like one small Baby (2015) reunion (courtesy Daggubati, Pannu and Menon) but BollyCurry is pleased to see an ensemble boasting of stellar actors in a movie with so much buzz around. Pannu has been surprising us with her unconventional film choices for a while
now, though she doesn't have much to do in the two-minute trailer. Menon and Kulkarni need no validation for their acting prowess. However, we are a tad disappointed with Daggubati's bits that made the cut, because we've seen him doing better. The movie also stars the late Om Puri, and will probably be one of his first film to release after his sudden and sad demise.

 

The first and only thing that lingers on your mind is the production design. The cinematography by Madhi is phenomenal, we'd rate it a 5 out of 5 stars if we could! Debutant director Sankalp Reddy and editor Sreekar Prasad have seemed to put up a decent show. Writer Azad Alam follows the lines of previous war-centric films, penning some very sentimental nationalist sequences; a special mention to Menon's closing dialogue in the trailer.

 

Time and again, Bollywood has constantly come up with some classic battle flicks and has hardly failed. We hope for the same with The Ghazi Attack because it narrates the atrocities and ceaseless courage of those unsung war heroes who went unnoticed. With that, BollyCurry rates the trailer a 4 out of 5 stars and looks forward to the theatres being swept off by a tide of movie-goers on 17th February 2017, when The Ghazi attacks!
