Tom Cruise, one of the most dynamic stars in Hollywood, is reportedly in discussions to create a sequel to his 1990 film Days of Thunder. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in talks with Paramount Pictures about the follow-up. Additionally, he is set to begin filming a new project with acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Fans will also be excited to hear that Cruise is planning further adventures for Ethan Hunt, hinting at more Mission: Impossible films on the horizon.

The report quoted a source who is a studio insider, which said, “He’s talking [to Paramount] about Top Gun and Days of Thunder. It’s going to be what comes together first in terms of a script. It depends on the idea and, ultimately, the script… I don’t think a [Days of Thunder sequel] is a terrible idea. You might have said that revisiting Top Gun was a terrible idea. I wouldn’t discount it.”

Cruise is gearing up for the release of the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, which is set to debut next year. This action-packed film has a substantial budget of $400 million and has experienced multiple production delays. Despite plans to conclude the franchise with this film, Cruise is eager to continue portraying Ethan Hunt, expressing a desire to keep the character alive even into his 80s.

The upcoming film serves as a direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which marked Cruise's return as Ethan Hunt. Production faced setbacks due to last year's Hollywood writers' strike, but filming resumed in March of this year. Fans can look forward to the film's trailer, which will shed light on the future of the Mission: Impossible series.
