Sunny Leone has been in the news for many reasons. And now with Splitsvilla returning to the screens and her commendable move of adopting a girl child from Latur, the diva makes an important stand. We got into a little chat with Sunny before she returns to the TV screen and the actress revealed her take on emotional attachments, women on TV and MTV Splitsvilla 10-
Splitsvilla has been a show Sunny has always come back to hosting and this time around she's again hosting with Rannvijay Singha and we wondered how strong her connection to the show is-
Q: Do you have an emotional connect with the show?
A: The emotional connect is absolutely there. I wait every single year for this call because it's such a fun show... one of my favourite things to do all year. It's nice being around the same people and crew.
Q: How is the show planning to approach the scientific angle to match-making?
A: MTV has created these situations and experiments to find out why certain things like getting butterflies in your stomach happen and the electricity that happens the first time your hands touch with somebody you like. All of these have a basis in chemistry. We created situations where these variables can be tested. There will be sessions on love and chemistry by the end of which we learn if its love or friendship between contestants.
The 10th season revolves around the science behind attraction and Sunny turns out to be the perfect mentor for girls on the show-
Q: Do you ever feel you have a social responsibility towards the viewers and the contestants?
A: I don't really see it as a social responsibility but if I see or hear something that is inappropriate or politically incorrect like some words people shouldn't be using I speak strongly against it. Also, if I see a young lady not sitting right or has a loose t-shirt strap I make sure they stop rolling the cameras and correct them since they're on TV. Apart from that what I always hated seeing is the gender comments made, we need to make comments less gender biased.
We wondered if Splitsvilla comes as a corrective shock to Indian TV and asked Sunny what she thinks about it-
Q: On majority of the shows we don't have liberated women, they don't really make advances but on Splitsvilla we see girls making a move. How does the image of liberated women look through a patriarchal lens?
A: There's a reason that there are so many different channels out there. MTV India is all about the young people whether it's female or male being liberated to say and do what they want and I think that's what MTV stands for and maybe pushing boundaries is a part of it. But, it's for that specific channel and luckily if someone doesn't like it they can change the channel.
What do you think? Do you agree with what Sunny has to say?
