The much-anticipated horror-comedy Stree 2 has set the box office abuzz even before its release, with advance bookings soaring to unprecedented levels. According to a recent report by Sacnilk.com, the film, which is a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Stree, has already sold over 1,24,402 tickets across India for its first day. The film has raked in an impressive Rs 4.09 crore nett in advance sales for its August 15 release, indicating a massive opening day ahead.
Stree 2, directed by Amar Kaushik and featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, is trending 20% higher than Salman Khan's Tiger 3 and 25% higher than the 2022 hit Brahmastra in pre-sales. This remarkable achievement has positioned Stree 2 as a potential contender for a spot among the top 10 biggest pre-sales of all time, a feat that underscores the film's growing anticipation.
The excitement surrounding Stree 2 has been palpable, with tickets selling out rapidly across both metropolitan areas and smaller towns. The film's appeal transcends demographics, proving its wide-ranging allure as it prepares to hit cinemas this Independence Day.
The original Stree was a game-changer in the horror-comedy genre, set in the quaint town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. The film, which revolved around the urban legend of an evil spirit named ‘Stree’ that abducts men during festival season, became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed films of 2018. The returning cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, along with the directorial prowess of Amar Kaushik, has only heightened expectations for the sequel.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios, Stree 2 is a part of Maddock’s expanding horror-comedy universe. This universe also includes Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya and the recently released Munjya, starring Sharvari and Abhay Verma.
However, Stree 2 will face stiff competition at the box office. The film is set to clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, as well as Tamil actor Vikram’s Thangalaan and Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart, featuring Telugu star Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt.
As the clock ticks down to its Independence Day release, Stree 2 is on track to make a significant impact, potentially rewriting box office history.
