Netflix has thrilled fans of the hit Korean series Squid Game by announcing the release dates for both Season 2 and the final Season 3. The news was shared on Thursday, surprising many who have eagerly awaited updates on the popular show.
The superhit Korean survival drama, which became Netflix’s most-watched series when it premiered in 2021, will return with its second season on December 26, 2024. This announcement came from Netflix’s US social media accounts, which also revealed that the final season will arrive in 2025. Along with this news, Netflix India released a teaser for the upcoming season, captioned, “The real game begins. Squid Game Season 2 coming December 26, only on Netflix. Final Season coming 2025.”
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator, director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game, expressed his excitement about the new season. In a special note, he said, "I am thrilled to see that the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We'll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you're excited for what's to come."

Lee Jung-jae, known for his role as Song Gi-hun (Player 456), and Lee Byung-hun, who played The Frontman, will reprise their characters. Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo will also return. The new season will introduce several top Korean actors including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, and more.
Set three years after the original Squid Game, the second season will follow Player 456, who won the deadly competition. He is now determined to uncover and stop the people behind the brutal games.
Squid Game Season 1 was a massive success, premiering on September 17, 2021. It quickly became the most-watched series on Netflix, amassing 265.2 million views. The series also featured Park Hae-soo, HoYeon Jung, and Indian actor Anupam Tripathi among its cast.
Fans can look forward to more intense drama and shocking twists in the upcoming seasons.
