Sonam Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor's recently released film 'Veere Di Wedding' has been dominating at the box office. By minting Rs 30.06 crores in its opening weekend, this female-buddy film has been winning hearts of the audience.
Joining the audience's excitement is none other than Sonam's foe Deepika Padukone. Yes, the queen of Bollywood recently shared on Sonam's Instagram post about how excited she is to watch the film. Sonam Kapoor shared the first-day box office collection of Veere Di Wedding and Deepika's comment was quite shocking as reportedly the two actresses who once were friends, do not get along any more.
Sonam had posted, "Veere Di Wedding opens to 10.70 Crores on day 1! Third highest opener this year for a film without a hero and an adult rating! Clearly the future is female! "
To which Deepika Padukone congratulated the team and replied, "Congratulations!& can't wait to watch the film!"
Speaking of the film Veere Di Wedding, the veere's Sonam, Kareena, Swara and Shikha went out and out to promote this film. In one of the interactions, Sonam made it clear that this film is not a feminist one.
She stated, "Just because people saw four girls who are in a certain urban setting being realistic to what young urban working women, what their lifestyle is... a lot of us who come from this background, we do curse, we do drink. And we are sexually active. We are not sitting waiting till we get married".
To this her co-star Swara further added, "Swara further said, "Just because we are showing that on screen why is that becoming an issue? When we allow our male characters to be as close to reality as possible, why can't we let our women have that?".
The makers had always refrained from calling this film just a 'chick-flick'. Producer Rhea Kapoor, in a statement to IANS, said, "Calling the film a chick flick would put it in a bracket. At a juncture where we are trying to break away from labels, it's high time we had a film that doesn't judge women and at the same time is aspirational."
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Veere Di Wedding released on 1st June 2018.
