The success of franchise films has brought a lot of cheer to Bollywood. A spate of sequels are being announced left right and centre. Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kartik Aaryan are some of the stars leading these franchises. One of Akshay Kumar’s most loved comedies is Singh Is Kinng. The movie was a great family entertainer and makes us smile till date. Om Puri was in fine form as Rangeela while the chemistry of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif was top-notch. Fans were a bit upset when an interview of producer Shailendra Singh went viral a few days back. He said the sequel of Singh Is Kinng would be announced soon. He also said he would opt for a new Singh instead of the OG Akshay Kumar.
The two heroes is his mind were Diljit Dosanjh and Ranveer Singh. Both of them are quite fluent in Punjabi, and their comic timing is impeccable. But fans of Akshay Kumar were sorely upset with this news. Now, Pinkvilla has clarified that nothing of this sort might happen as Akshay Kumar is a co-owner of the intellectual property rights of the movie. Akshay Kumar’s film production house, Cape Of Good Films holds 50 per cent of the IP for Singh Is Kinng. A source told the portal, “Anyone who wishes to make a part two has to make it with Akshay or needs a NOC from his end to roll without his involvement. Akshay and his team are in no mood to part ways with the rights of Singh Is Kinng and will make a part two when they find a banging script for the same.”
It seems the superstar’s consent is a must to make a franchise out of Singh Is Kinng. Akshay Kumar will be back with his comedy movies with Housefull 5, Jolly LLB3, Hera Pheri 3, Bhagam Bhag that still have great recall value with his audience. Akshay Kumar has seen a lacklustre spell at the box office in the past two to three years. These films can help his career get back to its pinnacle.
Akshay Kumar’s legal team has confirmed that he is the co-owner of the movie. They said that no one can have single authority to produce any prequels, sequels or franchise to the comic caper.
