British-Indian director and documentarian Sandhya Suri’s feature debut Santosh has been selected as the UK’s submission for the Oscars’ International Feature Film category. Written and directed by Suri, the Hindi-language film stars Shahana Goswami in the lead, with Sunita Rajwar in a key role. Santosh premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section earlier this year, with Sanjay Bishnoi and Kushal Dubey also among the ensemble cast.
Written and directed by Sandhya Suri, Santosh is an investigative thriller set in rural Northern India. The story follows newly widowed Santosh, who inherits her late husband's job as a police constable and becomes entangled in the investigation of a young girl's murder.
Now competing with Laapataa Ladies and numerous other international films, Santosh will vie for one of five coveted spots in the Oscars' International Feature Film category. The final nominations will be revealed by the Academy in January 2025.
