Riteish Deshmukh’s OTT debut: 'Pill' promises to be a game-changer

Riteish Deshmukh, who made his acting debut in 2003 with Tujhe Meri Kasam, has since been a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, working in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. Now, he is set to venture into the digital space with his first web series, Pill.

As Riteish eagerly anticipates the release of his debut web show, he shared his reflections on the differences between his early days in cinema and his current experience in the OTT realm. Speaking with DNA, he recalled his film debut two decades ago. "At that point in time, I didn’t know what I was doing. It was just a new energy; we did what we had to do," he said.

Riteish noted that his entry into the OTT space comes with a wealth of experience. He feels that he has honed his craft over the years and gained a deeper understanding of filmmaking. This knowledge, he believes, will contribute to his performance in Pill.

In the same interview, Riteish revealed that he had been eager to work in the OTT space for a while but was waiting for the right script and subject. That opportunity came when producer Ronnie Screwvala and director Raj Kumar Gupta teamed up to create Pill. Describing the project, Riteish said, "Pill is a clutter-breaker show."

Riteish also shared his thoughts on the growing importance of OTT platforms. He believes that the format is here to stay, possibly forever. "In this space, filmmakers get more freedom to create content and there’s no need to rush things. In fact, makers don’t have to stress over editing the story if the cut gets bigger. Even actors are getting good work; makers are realizing the worth of talents," he concluded.Pill is set to stream on Jio Cinema starting July 12, marking a significant milestone in Riteish Deshmukh's career as he embarks on this new journey in the digital entertainment world.
