REVIEW: Vivek Dahiya - Karishma Tanna's 'Qayamat Ki Raat' will keep you hooked for just long enough!

Vivek Dahiya - Karishma Tanna starrer Qayamat Ki Raat went on air this weekend, and the viewers seems to have really loved it. The show seems to be high on emotions of romance, thrill and vengeance and promises to keep the audience at the edge of their seats with its plot twists and high drama.
With two episodes having aired already, read on to know what our take on the show is, and how we think will the show fair.
Story so far:
The first episode begins with newly weds Suhasini (Dipika Kakar) and Mahendra Thakur (Abhinav Kohli) having quite an eventful journey while they are on their way from the railway station to the temple, where they have an encounter that was nothing short of a nightmare.
For reasons completely unknown, the tantrik in the temple, has been waiting for Suhasani for she is pure, pretty and his to be conquered. In another turn of events, in order to save her husband Manhendra, she cuts Kalasur (Nirbhay Wadhwa) into three by chopping off his head and an arm. That results in the tantrik casting a curse on her and the females to come in their family.
Cut to the present, 25 years later, Suhasani's daughters Karuna (Daljiet Kaur) and Gauri (Karsihma Tanna) are all grown up while the former is being set up with one of Mahendra's friend's son, whom he promised alliance with.
While the girls are on their way to Ramnaamgarh, they come across two boys, one of whom is the prospective groom Karuna is being set up with. The four of them fall in quite a lot of trouble, and Gauri happens to make her entry into the temple just how her mother Suhasini did.
And, until the next Amawasya, if Kalasur manages to get his chopped parts together there is going be yet another struggle coming their way to escape the Qayamat on the next Qayamat Ki Raat.
The Good:
For starters, the show manages to keep up with the suspense element since the very beginning. While we do know that there is something coming up next, what we don't know is how will it happen or what will transpire. Karuna having almost drowned into the bog, and how instead of holding on to Karuna's hand, Gauri ends up holding that of Kalasur's thereby freeing one of the three parts.
The use of prosthetic techniques for that Kalasur is commendable, but as we mentioned in one of our promo reviews, it seems to be inspired highly from Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun (the giant with the free folks) from Game Of Thrones, and that is quite a turn off. The look and feel is rather believable, with the temple, and the rich family and the village folks.
What did in fact catch our attention is the balance between believing and non-believing the superstitions, the contrast of modern and orthodox, and the presence or absence of any of the activities or supernatural powers.
The Bad:
Though we do like the setting, we got a lot of the Naagin vibes from the scenes in the temple with the presence of a blue gradient and the wind gushing by.
Of all the things, the use of their own mixes in original Bollywood songs seemed to be the worst idea to us. Not having an original sound track is okay, but one shouldn't mix those into the way the show seems to have done. That is a total negative for me.
While we'd like to highlight Dipika's performance, we wish that her character wouldn't have been killed off so quickly and that the makers did a little more around Suhasini and the curse, until the next Qayamat Ki Raat arrives.
The performances:
I'd like to give it out to Dipika Kakar for her performance, for though extremely brief, she did some justice to it and to the story in general. We are definitely hoping that the track ahead has flashbacks with Suhasani. She has put up a convincing act, and set the story's pace just about right.
Karishma Tanna and Daljiet Kaur do justice to their roles. While Karishma as Gauri is a great fit for the role, she manages to put together a perfect mix in terms of emotions where she is chirpy, she is thrilled, and at the same time ready to take on the world. Daljiet on the other hand has got for herself a great comeback here.
Vivek Dahiya as Rajvardhan aka Raj is one of the best part about the shows and his camaraderie with Karsihma aka Gauri seems to be shaping up pretty well. His look has come across as subtle and though a little OTT drama is present, it is more to cater to his character and the demeanor.
Manraj Singh as Aman and Sumit Bhardwaj as Dharma have put together a decent act, and help the story move on in the right direction with their on-screen presence.
Verdict:
After having seen a show for a 100 plus minutes, I think there is still a lot that I, as a viewer would want to know, and questions, my friend is a good thing for it will take you back to the show the coming week. Qayamat Ki Raat isn't anything extraordinary, but the subject, along with the soon to bloom love story of Gauri and Raj is what shall keep you hooked to it.

EK is obsessed with south dramas QKR is almost adoption Arundathi movie where suhasini and tantrik scenes are almost same. I didn't like KT and VD's acting somewhat irritating. Daljeet and Deepika has performed well. But the series is not too good nor bad it was okish.

Show is good balance between drama and reality. Actors are doing fab job .Audio can be taken care of I guess. Characters look like shouting especially dramatic part.hope they concentrate on ragau love angle.. vd kt show a lot of potential.

Both Daljeet and Karishma tanna are 33+. The boy paired against Daljeet looks like her younger brother. They both are way too mature for bubbly college girls type roles.

Agree with @Shelly_392. First episode was good enough only coz of Dipika's fab performance n I too haven't watched SSK. Rest was a drag and the pairing isn't all that great. Karishma n Daljeet do not look like they r college going girls n certainly not 24 or lesser. Vivek's character is similar to Rishab in Brahmarakshas. Infact this show feels similar. There is nothing new here. And I donno how anyone can appreciate the prosthetics here. It's so lame n pls don't compare it to GoT. Wun Wun looked real but this tantrik looks like someone has put clay all over his face to make it look grotesque. Not sure if this will hold my interest for long.

indeed this is worth to watch. everyone fit their role except those two fat females (raj's aunt i guess) in the rich khandan.

Really, frankly I thought apart from episode 1, nothing was watchable and this is only because Dipika as Suhasini totally stole the show. I am nt a fan of this girl and never did I watch her in Sasural Simar Ka but she nailed it. The biggest disappointment was we can't see her more in the show. After the 25 year leap, the show looked a typical EK soap with her own set f actors always present to make a fool out f u and just being so non convincing everytime. Yes this gives you Naagin feels purely bcoz it belongs to same PH. Uff! can't EK employ some better people to execute her new shows. Nobody is interested in viewing them every now and then. After the leap, story is very boring and more predictable. Karishma Tanna looks pretty but that's the only thing. No other character apart from that baba looks exciting to watch. Sorry it was 2/5 for me. 2 only coz Dipika smashed the first episode brilliantly.

Currently Naagin is getting annoying with easy predictability n same story in every season vibes. Plus besides Vish no other character is appealing me as a viewer. But this show is good I m liking it. Already hooked as all the characters are best fit. Not one single time I felt like not liking some character. Keep Rocking.
