The writer of a powerhouse of entertaining shows such as Bidaai, Sasural Genda Phool, Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Pyaar Ka Dard and many more, Zama Habib has turned a solo producer for Nimki Mukhiya under the banner of Qissago Telefilms on Star Bharat

From the initial buzz, the show seemed like a breath of fresh air and now that it has launched, here's what we think and feel about the show -

Story so far...

Before the show launched, the promos spoke about the story of a village that has been ruled by men for years set in Bihar. Women here are confined mostly to being home makers. But a wind of change is brought in by this young and bubbly girl, Nimki (Bhumika Gurung) who takes on the responsibility of her village and becomes the Mukhiya.

As the first episode sets in, the show introduces Nimki on the peppy beats of the song, Kar Gayi Chull, giving out a clear image of the protagonist as a carefree, fashionable and independent-minded person. The show transits quickly to the situation where the village encourages bribery and cheating in the field of education enlightening us about the backwardness in the village.

Very quickly, the show moves on to show how a mukhiya's son, Babbu (Abhishek Sharma), is prepping up to contest elections and this piques Nimki's intrest. Our guesses are that she will be fond of him until she learns about him being rogue.

As the show progresses, it moves on to showcase the political conflicts within the family and the hunger for power. Just when the declaration of Babboo as the next mukhiya is set to take place, a huge showdown in presented. At first, the family feels that they should not be attending the ceremony among the villagers as they belong to a higher caste. After mutually deciding, the family attends the function where the first jolt is received when the mukhiya's wife (Garima Vikrant Singh) screeches a 'peeche hatt' to a kid as he stood in her way. Quickly, the show moves on to showcase a dance performance by Nimki where we see quite a chemistry between her and Babboo. After the performance, begins the prize ceremony where the show brings in another gut wrenching sequence.

An upper caste villager drags a lower caste boy and requests the mukhiya to take strict action against him for touching his girlfriend who belongs to the upper society. Strict action is taken in the form of crushing his hand brutally. As a part of a political gimmick, the family decides to send Babboo to apologize for the action taken. All through the sequence, one thing is certain, Nimki is in awe of the heavy personality projected by Babboo.

Nimki Mukhiya primarily touches the caste system which has been prevalent for a long time and hints towards how the show will traverse the life of Nimki from being a casual person to one who will realize her powers and become responsible after being a mukhiya.

The Good

The title track of Nimki Mukhiya itself gives the feel that the show is a unique story. The unconventional angle between Nimki and and Babboo is a treat in itself. Instead of presenting it as a cliched 'hatred-turns-love' saga, there is no animosity between the leads and until she learns about him being rogue.

All the character projections are strong and the light-hearted humour against the socio-political backdrop keeps the distinct flavour of the show alive. The language and accent has been well picked and aced by the lead, Bhumika along with the ensemble cast.

The Bad

So far, the story manages to keep us hooked and we do not see any loop holes. All we hope is that the show does not drag its sequences too much.

The Verdict

All in all, the show not only manages to pique our interest because of the storyline but also because of the effortless acting skills of the actors, dramatization and the visual appeal.

Yes I actually liked that part of it that she doesn't just hate him. In fact she doesn't really hate anyone which is a change. I also like how carefree she is and lively. The show is definately from typical dramas. Hope it keeps the storyline interesting.
