REVIEW: Mahek Chahal steals the show in Kavach Kaali Shaktiyon Se!
But we still need a Kavach!
Published: Wednesday,Jun 15, 2016 18:57 PM GMT-06:00
The story skips ahead to 4 years. The Bundela household is busy making preparations for Rajbir's wedding to Paridhi (Mona Singh). And Paridhi happens to head to the same hanuman temple where Nisha had gone to before her wedding. She encounters a lady who tells Paridhi that she has a Kavach and asks her to pray. Paridhi, who is an archaeologist, does not believe in blind faith and idol worship and hence, refuses.
Rajbir's dadi, suddenly senses some negative vibes and fears that Manjulika has returned. Paridhi's car meets with an accident when she leaves for the haveli, leaving everyone tensed. But Paridhi arrives at the haveli safe and sound and it is then revealed that Paridhi had sent her car with a lady, who was in need of help. Manjulika, assuming that it is Paridhi in the car, destroys it. It is then revealed, that Paridhi has a Kavach on her that protects her and her loved ones from black magic.
Dadi, sensing Manjulika's strong presence in and around the circumstances, insists that they should go to the Hanuman Temple the very next day. Manjulika successfully stops them all from reaching the temple and somehow lures Rajbir to her haveli and starts to seduce him. But Paridhi reaches the temple and prays to lord Hanuman to save Rajbir wherever he is. And Manjulika is somehow thrown away from Rajbir. Rajbir escapes from the palace but is not the same anymore. Manjulika has drawn out his blood and hair and is now controlling Rajbir. Manjulika makes Rajbir insult Paridhi time and again in front of the family.
What we liked
Mona Singh and Vivek Dahiya do complete justice to their individual characters. Even though Mona is yet to show her acting prowess (we are eagerly awaiting the part where Manjulika possesses her) Vivek has already started proving that he is more than a side character. The parts where Manjulika casts spells on him and he starts to behave differently, Vivek does those parts with ease.
How can one not go gaga over Vivek's shirtless entry a.l.a typical Salman Khan style? The actor flaunts his tonned body in his introductory sequence and OMG!! What can we say. Totally Ooh Laa Laa!
As for Mahek, she plays her part of the hot, sizzling, sexy, conniving vamp to perfection. Makes us wonder, why wasn't she cast for such roles earlier? Least we can say is that Mahek may have just spoiled all the vamps for us.
What we did not like
Individual performances apart, Mona and Vivek's chemistry just did not click. Perhaps, a small back story with detailing as to how Rajbir and Paridhi met and fell in love would have helped the audience grasp this unconventional pair a little more. Hopefully, it should get better with time.
The reuse of same old sets. The shoot locations are the same as Naagin. The Bundela Haveli, the roads leading to the haveli, are all the same.
The absurd loopholes. How many of you found the sequence of events confusing? We sure did. Firstly, the girl Nisha, is travelling to the Bundela haveli for her engagement alone, what? Ok.
The back story of how and why Rajbir and Paridhi's engagement breaks thrice, how Manjulika roams around freely without anyone else noticing her for a long time, is left unanswered.
Apart from the main cast, the side actors too are doing a great job, by OVERACTING. Leading in this category is the jodi of Kammo and Nammo, the grandmothers of Rajbir and Paridhi. While Nammo is a big fan of alcohol, all Kammo does is recite four lines of the Hanuman Chalisa at the drop of the hat.
We can not say much about the tech part as a lot has not been done in that department. The visual effects are somewhat patchy, but definitely way better than what they used in Naagin.
The music department could have done better than use the instrumental music of Karz's Ek Hasina Thi and Bhool Bhulaiya's Aami Je Tomar in the background.
Verdict
The three main leads will only be able to show their true skills once the track starts to catch pace. Vivek is surely at an advantage as he gets to romance two ladies. Mona and Mahek both get to play each other time and again. In terms of acting, it is a win-win situation for the trio. Even though the show has had a dull beginning, we still want to give it a benefit of doubt and wait till the main story progresses. But as of now, all we can say is that we had great expectations, but...
One fact that definitely all the viewers would agree too is that Mahek Chahal completely STEALS the show for now.

The review kinda sounded like Divyanka's fangirl going gaga over her fiance Vivek. Jokes apart, the show is a complete trash, so are the acting of the actors. Since Indian audience has submerged themselves in superstitions and Bhootiya kinda stuffs, this show might do well. Who knows. But it only managed to get 1000 viewers on Sunday in the UK showing how a matured audience rejected it...

Mona is the saving grace with her witty lines and witty demeanour. Mahek overacts with over makeup. The male lead is good. But there is no subtelty at all. It is garish like Mahek's makeup and acting.

I find the review ok but the fact you think we shouldn't judge story by a book cover and then you did just that. It's an episodic show give it a atleast 4 episode before you start judging.

To be very honest as a Viewer I feel the lead pair is ok they r not that we can call as wow best lead Jodi n stuff ...as in horror types concept younger cast is more better ... if the lead cast had a guy like Shakti Arora n a new talented pretty girl than this would have definitely brought interest very higher ...! This was first thing came into minds ...rest now will look up to show further ...

I'm liking the show. The concept is not very new but the actors chosen for this show I guess will be the key to the show's success. All the best, guys!

What exactly do they mean to show??Girls who look sexy are bad?? They are reinforcing stereotypes in a country which is already dealing with rape culture!!!! And giving air to blind superstition!!!!And no disclaimer helps as most of the audience is uneducated!!!!
