Review: KGF Chapter 2 is a massy entertainer with high voltage action; leaves you with an unanswered question

Holding on to a story for such a long time and keeping up with the expectations of the audience was something Prashant Neel has successfully delivered with KGF Chapter 2.

KGF Chapter 2

It has been almost 4 years since the audience has been waiting for this film. Holding on to a story for such a long time and keeping up with the expectations of the audience was something Prashant Neel has successfully delivered with KGF Chapter 2.  Coming out of the theatre, your heart will be filled with contentment but will also have some lingering unanswered questions.

After having watched the film today, this is what I thought of it.

The Plot and Script

The script wastes no time and picks up from where it left. An endearing story of Rocky's journey as a maverick Don after he takes over KGF unravels with significant shifts correlating it to the past incidents. The first half of the story build on the character of Rocky as the Sultaan of KGF while also presenting multiple heroes and villains. As a powerful nemesis, enters Adheera (Sanjay Dutt), with his rugged and ghastly look. The story further breezes into Rocky's life as he tries to keep the land under his control while sailing between the ups and downs of being in power.

The script has its shares of predictability yet, also boasts of some surprising turn of events. In the second half of the movie, Rocky faces a new challenge in the form of Ramika (Raveena Tandon), who is ruling the country politically.

With the emotional connection, a pinch of romance, and its share of powerful dialogues, action sequences, and twists, the story will keep you at the edge of your seat and leave you spellbound by the end of it.

The Direction

If anyone knows how to keep up the level of excitement soaring for a linear story like this, it's Prashant Neel. Prashant has done a commendable job with direction, be it playing with the character build-up, keeping up the thrill, or showcasing the perfect clash between Adheera and Ramika with Rocky. Prashant transports us into a different land of atrocities and marauding troops of dons and mafia. The action sequences are crafted with great intensity yet appear to exude sheer smoothness.

The Performances

One thing that has seeped into the story with utmost perfection is the characterization and the actor's impeccable performances. Rocking star Yash has undoubtedly proven his ability to rock the screens. He gets into the skin of a messiah who traces the path of a one-man army with finesse.  All his dialogues and action sequences are downright whistleblowing moments and Yash sets the stage on fire with his aura, uptight personality, and machoism.

Sanjay Dutt as Adheera has kept up with all the anticipation and his rugged and intense appearance is something you can't take your eye off. One might hate him for being the villain but his acting skills are sure to win over your hearts.

Sanjay Dutt

Raveena Tandon has essayed the role of a powerful politician and she does the same by exuding power and a dictating slant. She carries the story forward in the 2nd half and does justice to her role. Srinidhi Shetty looks raw and unsmoked but does not many dialogues to offer. She does have a screen presence more than that from Chapter 1. Prakash Raj keeps it minimal yet significant. The rest of the cast with villains and villagers seemed apt.

Background Music and Cinematography

The movie sets a precedent for artwork and sound effects. The technical department has done its jobs with finesse. The sets are magnificent providing perfect correlation to the geography. But in parts, you will feel that the sound effects are too loud and create a could, that could have been avoided.

Dialogues and Songs

The dialogues are quite powerful and are worth a whistle amongst the crowd. Witty and humorous punchlines keep coming along the films and with Yash's broken English, it sounds even more captivating.

The songs have strong lyrics and emotions and will definitely connect with you in a rather short span of time.

The Verdict

Overall, Prashant Neel's tale of heroism, rivalry, and emotions will keep you hooked to the screens with the same level of excitement throughout and will also keep you pondering after the post-credit scene, which I will refrain from mentioning here. This movie surely most definitely deserves a theatrical watch and as it proves to be worth the wait.
