Review: Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant

In Indian culture, where everyone expects a 'perfect' daughter-in-law for their sons, what happens when you come across one?

Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant

Time Slot: Monday to Friday at 8 pm only on Life Ok

Produced By: Sonali Jaffer

Cast: Ridhima Pandit, Karan V Grover, Priya Tandon, Rajendra Chawla, Vahhbiz Dorabjee Dsena, Pankit Thakker, Tanvi Thakkar, Mehul Nisar and Divyanka Tripathi (Guest appearance)

Story so far: Shantanu Kant aka 'Shaan' (Karan V Grover) is the youngest son of Surili (Priya Tandon) and Amrish Kant (Rajendra Chawla). The family also consists of elder son Ghyaan (Mehul Nisar) and his wife Maggi (Vahhbiz Dorabjee Dsena) and middle son Dhyan (Pankit Thakker) and his wife Sharmila (Tanvi Thakkar).

Amrish, who runs a transport business, turns into a meek mouse in front of his wife Surili. A true feminist, Surily doesn't believe in doing household work. She also encourages her daughter-in-laws, Maggie and Sharmila to follow the same rule which leads to pandemonium in managing daily chores in Kant household. Fed up with the situation, Shaan, a scientist decides to make a humanoid which can operate as per the given commands.

Rajni, the humanoid robot faces some technical errors. To solve the errors and make Rajni perfect, Shaan is in dire need of money. Surily agrees to help him on the condition that he will get married soon.

Will Surili find a perfect daughter-in-law? What will happen when Shaan has to take a humanoid as his life partner? All these will be answered in a roller coaster ride named 'Bahu Hamari Rajni-Kant'.

What works: Writer turned producer Sonali Jaffer has got her hand on an interesting concept of human and humanoid robot’s relationship, for her debut production. Casting fresh face Ridhima Pandit as 'Rajni' has won half the battle. Karan Grover with his long locks as a scientist looks handsome as usual.

Dialogues are bone tickling especially when it's a fight between 'Punjabi Munda' Amrish Kant and his 'Bengal Tigress' wife Surili. Characterization has been done with lots of thinking, be it bubbly 'Maggi' or 'Moma's Boy' Ghyaan.

What doesn't work: The script should have been crisp. Some scenes are stretched more than required which adds to the unnecessary length.

Our take: In Indian culture, where everyone expects a 'perfect' daughter-in-law for their sons, what happens when you come across one? Will it lead to a peaceful domestic life or will it lead to hidden crisis? - is what 'Bahu Hamari Rajni_Kant' all about. The concept of the show is interesting. It has a fun element in it along with family drama and romance.

Ridhima Pandit and Karan V Grover make a promising pair. For a common man 'Rajnikant' represents extraordinary and perfection in every aspect. The makers have showcased their ingenuity by naming the lead protagonist as 'Rajni-Kant'. We hope like 'Thalaiva' small screen's 'Rajni-Kant' will also win the viewers' hearts with her charming robotic antics.

I just checked out this show after reading the article where the female lead "thanked" fans for their appreciation of her and the show. (hardly see such genuine gestures from actors these days). Impressed with this, I read the comments on the article which praised the actor playing Rajini as well as the show.

After watching a few episodes, I am now hooked and will catch up to it for sure. As an overseas non Indian viewer, I find a concept like this on an Indian show very refreshing and different from Indian shows I have watched in the past. I think this new girl Ridhima Pandit is very promising. Even as a Robot, the emotional scenes she did with the baby and then when she felt the rejection of Shaan was very well done. Her robotic antics are funny and refreshing. Karan V Grover is a fun watch as mad scientist Shaan! The family is also LOL, especially the parents. On a whole, this really works and I have loved the episodes I have seen. Good going, and PLEASE makers dont deviate for TRP and ruin this show like so many others gets ruined daily.
