While Bollywood has Chandu Champion coming up next month, all eyes are on the two big South films Kalki 2898 AD and Pushpa 2 that will release in July and August respectively. Both of them are high budget affairs, and promise bumper opening for the makers. The North America market is one of the biggest for Telugu films. If a film clicks there, it ensures good profits for the makers. As per a Twitter handle, the rights of Pushpa 2 have been bought for Rs 60 crores while that of Kalki 2898 AD are for Rs 50 crores.

Distributors are ensuring that they do not incur any loss. Pushpa 2 has already done business of close to Rs 1,000 crores if reports are to be believed. Anil Thadani of AAA Films has bought North India rights for Rs 200 crores. The overseas rights have been sold for around Rs 100 crores, as for South Indian states. Netflix is already reportedly ready to shell out above Rs 250 crores for Pushpa 2.

On the other hand, Kalki 2898AD is a sci-fi dystopian movie. It is in an experimental genre. Prabhas is playing the role of Bhairava, a superhero who fights ultimate evil powers. Makers unveiled his car, Bujji in a special event in Hyderabad. The futuristic car was designed by engineers from Anand Mahindra’s Group.

Nag Ashwin is the maker of the National Award winning movie Mahanati. In fact, Keerthy Suresh the leading lady of Mahanati has given her voice to Bujji. There are reports of how Netflix has bought rights of Kalki 2898 AD for over Rs 200 crores. The first promo with Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama was shown during the IPL 2024. Fans are gaga over the visuals, BGM and sound design.

Movie buffs in India are keen for both these films to light up the box office. The summer of 2024 was a dry spell for exhibitors and distributors all over.
