Prerna Arora amazed by the South Indian film industry; says, 'Less manipulation, more work'

Hindi film producer Prerna Arora is making her debut in the Telugu film industry with Hero Heeroine. It has Divya Khossla Kumar in the lead role. The producer spoke about working in the Telugu film industry and how Bollywood needs to introspect on certain matters. She said, “We definitely need a price correction in Bollywood. It will benefit the whole industry. As of now, we have some filmmakers and actors who just do not care. They are only concerned with their payments. The market needs to create genuine data on how much a film makes rom satellite, digital and other rights.” Prerna Arora also spoke about manipulation in box office figures. 

She said, “There are many who are genuinely scared of their movies tanking at theatre windows. This is why a lot of projects are pushed to OTT. Also, people only show ‘worldwide collections’ to the public. I feel filmmakers and actors need to be more responsible on how they affect pricing of a project.” 

Prerna Arora lavished praise on Ajay Devgn. “I feel he is working in good films and producing good content. He is one of the most bankable actors out there. While Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are the pillars of the industry, he is one of the finest actors we have,” she said. 

It is interesting that she managed to break into the Telugu film industry which is known for its dynasties. “Filmmaking is family business here. I am grateful to see the support. Everyone I have met have given me good vibes. They are truly humble and down to earth,” she said. Prerna Arora said she is inspired as South filmmakers are highly intelligent, less manipulative and believe in doing good work quietly. 

In fact, she said she is shocked to see the shoestring budgets in which movies get made. It seems they were taken aback hearing about the cost in Bollywood. “The entourage cost in Hindi films is unbelievable. There is no such extravagance here. Yes, the big stars do get everything but then they bring in an opening day of minimum Rs 50 crores for the producers. Your merit, organic stardom and actual collections determine your worth,” she signs off.
