Abhishek Awasthi has now graduated from reality shows to daily soaps as will now be seen in SAB’s new comedy show, Jugni Chali Jalandhar where he plays a sophisticated yet rustic character of Maninder Singh.
Here is the actor as he talks about his role and much more..
Why did you choose to be part of this comedy show after a series of reality shows?
I was looking for a good break and after doing so many reality shows, my fans wanted to see me in soaps too. So here I am!!
What was the role you were looking for?
When it comes to the character, I was not choosy that I wanted only the main lead, but always wanted to play a strong character that could be noticed. Also I was looking for a good production house.
Can you tell us about the concept of the serial?
The story is all about a man who believes that the ladies in the family should not be educated. He believes that education spoils a woman. He has four sons of which three of them are married to unmarried women. But the fun happens when the youngest son who is studying abroad tries to break this norm..
Do you think in the midst of such a huge star cast comprising of Ranjeet, Asha Sachdev and Baba Sehgal, you will get noticed?
I am very sure that I will get noticed. Hum Cheez Hi Aise Hai…(laughs) Jokes apart, it is a great team to work with; I have learned a lot from them and have done all the hard work possible for my character.
Between comedy and daily drama, what do you prefer?
I would prefer comedy. Frankly speaking, I don’t like to do the drama stuff, but if I get anything good, then as they say ‘Work is Work’…
What do you want to say about your comic timing and sense of humor?
Everyone has a sense of humor, some show it and some don’t. As far as comic timing is concerned, I am a man who enjoys every moment and am always in a mood of ‘Masti’. So it was not difficult for me to play this role.
What do you think is the striking difference between realities and daily soaps?
There are many differences, but the biggest difference is that realities do not give you retakes while serials give you that liberty.
Do you think by doing this show you will create your own identity rather than being called Rakhi's boy friend?
I think every individual has to create an identity of his own. If in a couple, one is strong then it will surely affect the other. For example, how do you identify Lakshman of Ramayan? You only know him as Lord Ram’s brother. But I guess I have made a platform for myself with Ek Se Badhkar Ek and people now know my talent and they know me as Abhishek Awasthi.
How much does Rakhi help you in deciding your projects?
I don't consult any one, I do it myself. We don’t interfere in each others’ work, and if needed, I talk to Rakhi’s manager and that’s it.
