https://www.instagram.com/p/C_dXfuVyURp/?hl=enThe Hema Committee has interviews of a number of women working in the entertainment industry in Kerala. They have spoken up on sexual exploitation in the hands of producers, directors, assistant directors and actors. After the report came out, Mohanlal stepped down as chairman of the AMMA. Even the executive committee was dissolved. The current names who are booked include Filmmaker Ranjith, actor-politician Mukesh, actors Edavela Babu, Baburaj, Jayasurya, and Siddique. All of them face charges of sexual harassment.
The #MeToo outrage in the industry led to the formation of the Hema Committee. Some years back, we read about the horrific case of the actress who was abducted and assaulted allegedly on behest of a top actor. Revathy led a team of women whose initiative helped in the Hema Committee. People want such audits in all film industries so that women stay safe. Prithviraj Sukumaran said every top actor and producers should ensure safe working places for women. The Hema Committee has opened a can of worms that has led to a lot of discussion.
