Naam Shabana: Taapsee SHINES but the story FAILS to impress!

Director: Shivam NairCast: Taapsee Pannu, Manoj Bajpayee, Prithviraj, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Danny Denzongpa.Ratings: ** 1/2 (Two and a half star out of five)

Spin-offs are quite new for Bollywood and putting all faith and efforts by the makers in it is a job worth appreciating!

Basic plot: The film starts with a background score which will make you feel like you are watching a 'horror-thriller' film. Then we are introduced to the villain of the movie who kills the two intelligence agents in the first scene itself. After all this, the film will take us to Mumbai's Muslim colony where the central character Shabana Khan (Taapsee Pannu) lives with her mother.

One fine day, in the life of this ordinary college going girl who is also a Kudo player, an incident takes place where a group of few rowdies kill her boyfriend in front of her. Shabana becomes helpless when the murderers don't get arrested. Then, Ranveer (Manoj Bajpayee) comes into the picture. He calls her and offers an opportunity to join his team with a deal that she gets to kill the murderer of her boyfriend.

Post this, the film shows the journey of Shabana, from her recruitment in the agency to her accomplishing the missions!

What we liked:

Taapsee Pannu did a brilliant job in the film. Her expressions, her fight scenes looked real and also suited her well. You can feel, 'haan yeh ladki is aadmi ko maar sakti hai' (Yes, this girl can kill someone)

Akshay Kumar who has an extended cameo in the film does total justice to his character of Ajay Singh Rajput with his fight scenes and one liners!

The most joyous moment of the film is the entry of 'Shukla ji' (Anupam Kher).

Manoj Bajpayee has a serious role in the film, he did well!

What we didn't like:

Well, this portion will have more points than the above section, so let's check out-

The most important thing in the film, the story, many loop holes! The story could have been better.

Characters like Danny Denzongpa and Murli Sharma looked as if they were added forcefully just to link the film to BABY.

Less use of logic! Tell me, who would allow the only link to the world's most wanted to criminal to go for a loo alone? And one more, why would the villain himself tell the details about the only person who knows him?

But, if we overlook at everything else and try to look how Taapsee Pannu has delivered her performance, you will surely say that she steals the show!
