Munawar Faruqui drops a CRYPTIC message following his apology to Konkanis

Munawar Faruqui, the stand-up comedian, received a lot of heat after a remark he made about Konkani people stirred up controversy. Following this, Faruqui publicly apologized, clarifying that he did not mean to cause offense. Despite his apology, the situation quickly escalated, attracting negative attention and turning into a political matter. Recently, the winner of Bigg Boss 17 posted a mysterious message on social media that has caught the attention of his fans.

Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter), Faruqui wrote, "Jab apne hi log ladne aa jaye. Tab ladte nahi, chup rehte hain" (When our own people come to fight. Then we do not fight, we remain silent). The post has left many confused with them wondering if it’s an indirect dig at the Konkani community.

In the apology video, the Lock Upp winner set the record straight about his intentions regarding the comments, stating that they were made during 'crowd work,' which involves engaging with the live audience during his performance. "Hi friends, I wanted to clear some things up. Some time ago, there was a show where, instead of jokes, I engaged in crowd work, interacting with the audience," Faruqui said. He also elaborated that those who were part of the joke found it entertaining, and the audience comprised individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Yet, Faruqui recognized that his comment had caused distress to certain individuals, emphasizing that as a comedian, his aim was never to inflict harm."When we see these things on the internet and realize the issue, we understand," he added. Ultimately, Faruqui expressed regret and apologized for any offense caused. He captioned the apology video in Marathi, which, when translated, reads, "Much love and my apologies to Konkanis." 

For those not in the loop, the whole issue started during one of Faruqui's recent stand-up gigs, where he quipped about an individual from Taloja. He humorously mentioned how Konkanis tend to claim Mumbai as their home rather than Taloja, "Ye Konkani log ch***ya banate hain sabko" (Konkanis fool others).
