Melodious legend Mohammed Rafi's son criticized Karan Johar for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as it includes some dialogues which he thinks insults Mohammed Rafi. A dialogue in the films recited by Anushka Sharma says, "Mohammed Rafi gaate nahi, rote the (Mohammed Rafi used to cry, not sing)."
Rafi's son Shahid was quoted saying," This is so insulting. I am ashamed of Karan Johar. I didn't expect this from him at all. My dad has sung songs for Karan's father (Yash Johar) and this is what he has done now. I haven't seen the film yet."
"Whoever has written this dialogue is an idiot. He doesn't know who Rafi saab was. He was the most versatile singer. How can he write such crap about a legendary singer?"
The son of the legend expects an apology from the director. He said," The damage has been done. So many people have watched the film. I don't think he is even going to edit that part. All I expect from Karan is an apology letter from him."
He spoke about his father and late singer's fan following. "It's been 36 years and still his fan following is only increasing day by day. People tend to forget singers in just a few days but look at my father's body of work and his fan followers."
"I have received close to 9,000 messages on my Facebook account from my father's fans who are ready to protest against this. His fans will protest on November 2," he said.
The late legend has worked with Karan's father Yash Johar in Dostana (1980). The song 'Salamat Rahe Dostana' was sung by him which still has no competition!

Rafi Sahab was a legend and I am a huge fan of his voice. I don't think he can be insulted by any random comment by some stupid movie character! Haven't seen the movie so don't know the context in which it was said but it just shows the stupidity of the character which had the dialogue ;)

I am a hugeee Mohd. Rafi fan. If I were have to choose only one singer I can listen to on my playlist all my life, it would be him. But that said, I have watched the movie. I don't see it as in insult to Rafi; it were an insult to Rafi, than it was also an insult to the lyricist, music director, film director and the actor on whom the song was pictured. I think it is merely a pop-culture reaction to music of times gone vs. present times. There is never so much drama when there is a character in a movie who makes comparison between the Beatles and Elvis. They are both legendary but different people have different tastes. Unnecessary drama by Mr. Rafi's son to gain publicity!

@simplyme I think only you and I understood what was being said in the movie. I think this is simply a sign of a line taken out of context. One character said that line and her character said she did not prefer his music. But Ranbir's character idolized him and wanted to one day sing like him. So is there really a reason to hate? The movie does not make fun of Rafi sahaab.

I don't know if anyone has watched the movie and are commenting...or I understood extra!! I guess in the movie that line was used to explain how Rafi sahaab was able to emote well through his songs..and ayaan(ranbir) was only reciting them...not emoting them!! And through out the movie it is always mentioned that ranbir always dreams to be as awesome singer as Rafi sahab..which he can only attain if he inputs feelings in his songs!! This is what I understood and I don't think anyone would even dare to make fun of such a legendary singer (whom they have aptly glorified in the movie)!!

If what Shahid says is true, shame on you Karan Joharji. I didn't see the film. But he has no right to insult Rafi saab.Rafi saab cried for his father too.I know.I did respect you Karanji and I didn't expect this from you.Being a person from the film fraternity, you shouldn't have allowed it in your film. SHAME ON YOU

This is fact. If film industry will not respect their seniors and achievers who will? It is not such a thing as if without this dialogue film cannot be made.. also I know this will not harm the legend of Rafi also.. but this was simply avoidable. ... Perhaps Karan did not even see his own movie full :) or he may say Ouch!! I did not know that same Mohammed Rafi was referred to .. LoL
