Met Gala 2023: Decoding the looks of Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish, Sydney Sweeney & others

The Met Gala is known for its fashion, and this year's attendees did not disappoint. The event celebrates creativity and style, and many guests went all out to pay homage to Lagerfeld's legacy. From Rihanna's sweeping white gown to Billie Eilish's gothic ensemble, the outfits were unique and memorable. 

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were the final guests to arrive at the 2023 Met Gala, and they did not disappoint. The couple stunned in their outfits that paid homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld, the theme of the event. Rihanna donned a dramatic white Maison Valentino gown with a long train, a structured ivory top covered in rosettes that engulfed her torso and head, opera-length fingerless gloves, and a pair of white sunglasses with attached faux eye lashes. 

Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky wore a Gucci ensemble consisting of a black blazer, a white collared dress shirt, a high-low red plaid pleated kilt over a pair of bedazzled baggy jeans, black sunglasses, a silver brooch on his lapel, stud earrings, and steel-tip square-toe boots. The rapper's outfit referenced a similar look that Lagerfeld once wore to close out the Chanel runway in 2004.

Gigi Hadid and Billie Eilish also turned heads with their stunning ensembles. Gigi arrived wearing a custom Givenchy sheer black gown with long wavy blonde hair and a pearl necklace. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish nailed the 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' theme in a black lace gown by Irish designer Simone Rocha. The high-necked dress was made with completely repurposed fabrics, patch-worked together to create a lace-edged tulle dress and tinsel cotton tweed harness with embellished hips in jet crystal. She paired the gothic gown with hand-beaded jet crystal cluster tulle gloves and stockings.

Sydney Sweeney, the Euphoria star, made a grand entrance in a stunning Miu Miu gown that featured clear jewels and large silver sequins all over, including the straps. The soft pink dress had a breezy skirt and was completed with a large black bow at the bottom. She accessorized with diamond rings and earrings, and even her manicure was pointy and jewel-encrusted. Her shimmering rosy makeup and voluminous blonde waves added to the maximalist look.

Doja Cat, the American rapper, and singer, paid tribute to the iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and his cat Choupette by dressing up as the feline. The quirky artist wore an Oscar de la Renta pearl-white gown embellished with hundreds of shimmering diamantes. The sleeveless ensemble had a figure-hugging silhouette accentuating her frame, a feather-adorned train at the back, and a headdress featuring cat ears and crystal embellishments. Doja's tribute to Karl Lagerfeld's cat was a bold and creative fashion statement that left everyone in awe.

Cardi B, the rapper and social media star, arrived in not one but two unique looks at the Met Gala. She left NYC’s The Mark Hotel in a pink chiffon gown with floral details blooming like wings behind her. Later, she appeared in a sleek tuxedo gown with massive black roses and a Karl Lagerfeld-inspired grey hairdo. Fashion enthusiasts were quick to notice that her two looks were likely in reference to Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2017 show, in which Lily-Rose Depp wore a frilly, powder pink gown and Lagerfeld joined her on the runway in a sleek, shiny tux.

Lily Collins impressed on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2023, honoring the event's theme "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," in a two-piece outfit by Vera Wang. The ensemble consisted of a white bustier top and a black skirt featuring "KARL" spelled out in large silver letters on the back. The actress completed the look with elbow sleeves, dark red lip, and a stunning Cartier diamond necklace. Collins' outfit is a tribute to the late fashion designer and a nod to her character in Emily in Paris.

Talking about Met, the event not only celebrates fashion but also serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, ensuring that fashion continues to be celebrated and preserved for years to come.
