The video and hashtag were noticed by people all over the country including media houses, influencers, and celebrities. After the Mumbai Police denied any such incident in the city, parallels were drawn to Tusshar Kapoor’s upcoming murder mystery thriller, Maarrich which is set to release on 9th December 2022.

When approached by the makers of the film to speak about the same, they commented,” The Hatman video which is doing rounds on social media was a promotional intrigue video for our film. Our intention is not to scare or create any panic or cause any harm to anyone in the city. Since the Hatman plays a significant part in our film, we intended to only popularise the character in a hat and trench coat that stands for Maarrich meaning the ultimate evil.

While some appreciated this new innovative technique to market the film, others on social media commented with rage about how absurd it was to market a film in this manner. However, it seems the makers have achieved their desired outcome since it became the most talked about video on the internet and garnered huge eyeballs for the film.
