The Masti franchise is changing its game. After three films that leaned heavily into risqué territory, the fourth instalment is opting for a lighter, more mischievous tone. One that intends to amuse, not alarm. And leading this creative switch is director and writer Milap Zaveri, who steps into the driver’s seat with Masti 4.
Milap, who has previously written for the series but is now also helming the direction, has made it clear that the new film will avoid crossing into explicit territory. According to him, the idea is no longer to chase edginess. The cultural environment has changed, audiences have evolved, and shock value just does not land the way it used to. What viewers want now, he believes, is chaos that feels playful, not provocative.
In line with this change, Masti 4 will focus on comedic misadventures. Specifically, of married men trying to break monotony in their lives, much like the original film. The humour, though, will stay far away from any content that could be perceived as distasteful. The intention is to go for madness with mass appeal, not discomfort with controversy.
The film reunites the core trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, and Vivek Oberoi alongside new additions Elnaaz Norouzi and Ruhii Singh. Milap has already begun shooting in the UK and says the energy on set has been electric.
Interestingly, producer Indra Kumar, who directed the earlier three films, has given Milap a nod of approval after hearing the script. He apparently remarked that Masti 4 channels the vibe of Dhamaal.
An endorsement that underlines the film’s shift toward clean chaos and ensemble-driven laughter. This new chapter in the franchise is not trying to rewrite its past. It is trying to rewire its present. For Masti 4, it is not about breaking rules anymore. It is about breaking into laughter.
