Koena Mitra recalls struggle when she got no support from industry after plastic surgery

Actor Koena Mitra has witnessed quite a journey for herself so far where she was a part of some really successful films in mid-2000s but went on to witness a fall post which she opted for plastic surgery on her face. While, it was work that she was on and away from, she recently went on to discuss how the film fraternity decided to distance themselves from her after her surgery.

The actor celebrates her birthday today where she shared that since she was very open about her surgery, she got a lot of backlash for it, be it from the press or fans.

Speaking to India Today, she said that she felt tortured after talking about her surgery and also added that many stars from the industry had distanced themselves from her. She said, when she came to the industry, she wasn’t aware of the modalities.

Mitra added that she wasn’t aware that one must not talk openly about their surgery, so she had openly admitted about her surgery. “After that, it was as if the whole world was after me”. Mitra revealed that she she was tortured for three consecutive years, because of her surgery. There were so many negative things too written about the actress and along with this, many people from the industry also kept their distance, which in turn affected her work.

When asked about how she survived that phase she shared that she felt like laughing when people called her and consoled her saying – you are very brave, do not pay attention to all this.

She also acknowledged that it was painful; no one came in front of the media and said anything in her support.

On a closing note, Mitra said that she ‘never regretted going under the knife and never will’ and that the surgery was her ‘decision’. “I don't understand why other people have so much of a problem with it. My face, my life, whatever I do, what do others have to do with it?”
