In a time when many films are struggling to strike the right chord with audiences, Kesari Chapter 2 emerges as a refreshing exception, proving that good storytelling, strong performances, and emotional depth still hold the power to draw viewers to the theatres. Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, this period courtroom drama has managed to win hearts both critically and commercially, becoming a standout success for Dharma Productions.
The film, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, is inspired by true events from the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu and Pushpa Palat. Set against the backdrop of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the story follows lawyer C Sankaran Nair (played by Akshay Kumar) as he dares to challenge the British Raj in court to expose the horrors of the massacre. R Madhavan plays Advocate Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday impresses in a fresh avatar as Dilreet Gill.
Despite a modest start at the box office, Kesari Chapter 2 gained strong momentum over its first weekend, thanks to glowing reviews and overwhelmingly positive word of mouth. Audiences praised the film for its gripping courtroom scenes, powerful performances, and the emotional weight it carries. It’s rare to find a mainstream film that manages to balance historical accuracy with mass appeal and this one does it with finesse.
What also sets Kesari Chapter 2 apart is its place within Dharma Productions’ evolving legacy. Often associated with grand romances and glossy entertainers, Dharma is now showcasing a broader cinematic vision. From delivering a globally recognized film like Homebound, which earned an official selection at Cannes to backing a rooted, socially significant film like Kesari Chapter 2, Karan Johar’s banner is truly embracing the spectrum of storytelling.
As audiences continue to crave meaningful cinema, Kesari Chapter 2 proves that authentic narratives, when told with heart and handled with craft, can still create waves.
