The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa witnessed a buzz-worthy announcement from Vyjayanthi Movies producers Priyanka and Swapna Dutt. They revealed exciting updates about the much-anticipated sequel to the sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD. The 2024 blockbuster, featuring Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, was a game-changer in Indian science fiction and received overwhelming praise from fans and critics.

When asked about their thoughts on the first film’s success, Priyanka and Swapna shared their excitement, saying, “It’s good enough for us to make a good part two.” They also disclosed that significant progress had been made on the sequel, with “30-35 percent of part two” already filmed. They added, “Kalki 2 will have a big international release," building anticipation for this grand follow-up. Director Nag Ashwin had previously shared that some parts of the sequel were shot alongside the original movie in 2023, reflecting the team's foresight and ambition.

Deepika Padukone, who played a key role in the first movie, is set to return in the sequel after welcoming her daughter, Dua, in September. Talking about her character’s development, the producers revealed, “She will still be the mother in some part of the film," hinting at a deeper and more intriguing storyline. Fans are eager to see how her role evolves in this futuristic saga.

Kalki 2898 AD reimagines Mahabharata themes in a dystopian world. Prabhas stars as Bhairava, on a perilous mission to infiltrate “The Complex,” ruled by Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan). Deepika portrays SUM-80, a pregnant woman carrying the child prophesied as Kalki, while Amitabh Bachchan plays Ashwatthama, her protector.

The first film grossed an incredible ?1054.67 crores worldwide, ranking seventh among India’s top-grossing movies, just behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The sequel aims to surpass expectations, further establishing Indian cinema on the global stage.
