Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo is full of fun, laughter and warmth : Renuka Shahane

Pretty and seasoned actress Renuka Shahane who was seen in Mere Rang Mein Ranganewali on Life OK is back again with a bang with Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo on Disney Channel. In this exclusive chat with Renuka, she speaks about the character she portrays, about the show, chemistry between the actress and much more.

How different is this show from your previous show Mere Rang Mein Ranganewali?

This is a comedy show. Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo is full of fun, full of laughter, full of warmth and a huge contrast from Mere Rang Mein Ranganewali. I am a very serious lawyer in Mere Rang... but here it is a family serial so the entire family sees it together. My character is someone who knits with the entire family. She is the eldest bahu (daughter-in-law) and she is someone who gives maximum prominence to family and family values. At the same time, she has the ideas to solve problems and looks each and every aspect of life positively. If the car is broken down, she'll say chalo lets go walking, isi bahane exercise hi ho jayagi. Everybody in the family will be like what is good in this now? and again she'll find something positive in it. I love watching comedy and I love comedies where you laugh till you have tears in your eyes, cry with a smile. This is Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo.

How different is this show from other comedy shows?

The USP of this show is that your entire family with all your generations can watch it together. I think this show can bring back the 'Family Viewing Time'. There was a time when all of us used to watch television together. Now everyone has their own television sets. This is not such a happy situation. Watching TV is one of the important things that people do it in their day. Bonding over your favorite serials is one of the best things to do. That's different about all Disney Channel's show. I've been an avid fan of Disney channel ever since its inception because I have children. Obviously I see all their shows with my kids. In fact I see them even when the kids are not at home (laughs).

Yet again a new show with Mahesh Thakur. How does it feel?

I just don't think there's been a gap of so many years. We are very comfortable working with each other. In fact the entire cast is very seasoned luckily. The kind of give and take we have on sets, we suggest each other because we are so included to each other's character. I would suggest to Maninee De Mishra ki aise kar or Mahesh will suggest something to me. Such things really put life into any work you do. All of us are really charged and all ready to work.   

Since your kids love watching Disney, what was their reaction was about you being in one of the shows?

All the time they have heard of me being an actor but they have never been involved. They are completely in love with it. After a very long time I am doing a regular sort of serial in which I play a regular character. All of my kids' friends are very so excited; your mom's going to come on 'Disney' I am really looking forward to it and their response.

Again a lyrical title...

Actually it is a very catchy thing. It is a beautiful thing because we are seven different people in the family yet create symphony. There won't be any cacophony. Cacophony is seen even in a family having two people. That's why Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo is about finding something to laugh, smile, and sing about even in the worst of situations. So that's why the lyrical title.

Message to everyone who will see you in altogether different avatar...

I hope they watch the serial. It will air on Saturdays when kids will be at home. So parents along with kids and sit and see it. Hope they like it. I would say if they take even a bit of what is shown in the show and apply in their lives, not in a preachy way. But try and apply which will make their lives definitely better.
