The famous Bollywood lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently, commented on the extravagant behavior of stars and the increasing costs of their entourages, mentioning that hairstylists charge Rs 75,000 daily. The renowned lyricist joked that he should have picked up hairstyling skills.
In his recent guest spot on Chill Sesh, a comedy show hosted by Sapan Verma, Javed Akhtar recounted his experiences of observing celebrity tantrums on film sets. Akhtar contrasted the current scenario with the past, mentioning that he often hears tales of how stars now demand three vanity vans on set.
The seasoned screenwriter elaborated that one vanity van is designated for workouts, while the other two are used for meal preparation and dining. The lyricist also remarked that contemporary stars often have a team of 18 to 19 individuals.
"Unka woh aadmi jo baal thik karta rehta hai, unka woh 75,000 per day...arey yaar, humein maloom hota toh hum wahi kaam seekhte (They have a hairstylist who charge Rs 75,000 per day. If I had known about the exorbitant fee that stars pay, I would have learned hairstylist's skills)," he said.
Akhtar elaborated by mentioning that he didn't witness such occurrences in the past. Akhtar remembered that stars were "irregular and undisciplined," with most arriving late to the sets. However, there wasn't enough funding to afford such luxuries.
In the same episode, Javed Akhtar discussed how his children, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and director-actor Farhan Akhtar, consider his writing to be "outdated" and how they "dream in English." Akhtar also shared that he was asked to write the dog's dialogues for Zoya's 2016 film, Dil Dhadakne Do.
