Is Dia Mirza the 'evil stepmother' for Samaira? Here's the truth

Actor Dia Mirza recently shared a glimpse into her personal life during a conversation with the Official People of India, touching on her experience growing up in a blended family and her current role in one.

Reflecting on her early years, Dia explained how stories from childhood — or the absence of them — influenced her perception of relationships. Not growing up on traditional fairy tales, she said, made it easier for her to embrace people without built-in ideas of who they should be.

Her thoughts then turned to her stepdaughter, Samaira Rekhi. With a light-hearted tone, Dia mentioned that Samaira has saved her number in her phone with a playful label, suggesting an ongoing family joke. This moment served to highlight how perceptions of step-relationships have evolved and how humour often plays a part in navigating them.

Dia also recalled memories of her stepfather, Ahmed Mirza, who married her mother during her early years. She remembered how she naturally began addressing him as "Abba" and how, over time, he became more emotionally open within the family. A particularly emotional moment, she recounted, was the final hug they shared before her overseas assignment. He passed away while she was away, leaving behind a memory marked by unspoken affection.

In her own family life, Dia has seen many chapters unfold. Her first marriage ended in 2019. In 2021, she married Vaibhav Rekhi in a private ceremony in Mumbai. A few months later, they welcomed their son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, who arrived ahead of time and required intensive medical care.

Samaira, Vaibhav’s daughter from a previous relationship, is now an integral part of their household. Dia’s remarks suggest a dynamic of mutual respect and affection built over time rather than dictated by roles or titles.

On the professional front, Dia was last seen in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and is currently working on Housefull 5, marking her return to lighter, ensemble storytelling.
