Parekh Mehta has been on the rise and rise since she debuted on Youtube with her music channel. After 22 videos and some mesmerizing performances, she is back with her first ever English cover, 'Rockabye.'
In a hearty conversation with
Jankee, we asked her about the growth and popularity of her channel and her future plans among other things.
So, Jankee, this is your first English cover? How did you come up with the idea of doing an English cover after doing a range of Hindi songs? Yes. This is my first English cover and I am pumped up about it. It was DJ Papz' idea to do an English cover after having done several Hindi songs. We conceptualized it and thought of doing 'Rockabye' as the first English song sung by me. Having said that, I also feel that music has no language per se and it is the soul that matters.
How has the journey of doing songs been so far?
I have never been a reality show contestant and Youtube is the only medium of my connect with the people. Hence, the journey has been great and the feedback is what matters the most. Over time, we have received both positive and negative feedbacks about several tracks. I take that into account and we make sure that what's not being liked is not repeated. I am currently working on multiple tracks which I plan to release soon.
Have you already thought of coming up with your own album?
I have done several covers and I am still building my portfolio. I would love to and I am exploring different genres of music which helps me grow but having an album will happen after a while. I want to concentrate on more covers, where simultaneously I am in the process of making original stuff.
Having done such a variety of songs and having acted in them; ever thought of venturing into acting as a profession?
To be very honest, I do not think I am cut out for acting. With all due respect to all the actors, I don't think I have the patience to act. Of course, I act in my own videos as the visual aspect needs a face. But, when it comes to acting in a show or anything else, I am certainly not up for it.
We have known each other for years where we have seen each other grow up. I knew him before he was an actor. When it comes to his popularity; of course, he is popular and it's a given that I would tell him to post my video on his social media account. However, since a long time, we have always been clear about what we had to do and we keep supporting each other in anything and everything we do.
Finally, do you think an English song will have the same mass appeal as Hindi songs; as Hindi has a larger connect?
Today, everybody listens to numerous international tracks as well. So, be it Hindi or English, a song will be loved if it's melodious and appealing. Infact, I did a song in Assamese a while back. So, language is certainly not a barrier when it comes to hearing it. Who knows? I may be doing a French or a Spanish cover soon (laughs).
