Yo Yo Honey Singh has been dominating the music game, especially the rap scene in India, for ages now. He was one of the pioneers who brought hip-hop and rap to the country. Following his lead, numerous singers and artists have emerged to fame. In a recent chat, Honey discussed his fellow artists and gave his thoughts on the current independent music scene.
During his conversation with Mid-Day, Yo Yo Honey Singh mentioned that currently, the music industry is creating streaming sensations rather than true superstars. Reflecting on the past decade, he highlighted that only artists such as AP Dhillon, Karan Aujla, and Guru Randhawa have achieved superstar status. He also made a reference to the renowned Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, indicating that he doesn't include him in that category.
Supporting his claim with a rationale, the Brown Rang singer explained that the Amar Singh Chamkila icon was "already [far ahead] in the game; he was already a legend.." Singh added that he had a longstanding association with Diljit Dosanjh, having collaborated with him over the years. In his view, while the aforementioned three artists have ascended to superstar status, "50 boys and girls have, unfortunately, only become streaming stars." He highlighted this as a significant issue in the current music landscape.
In a recent interview with The Lallantop, the 41-year-old shared some controversial views about his hit songs. Speaking to the media outlet, Singh expressed that the upbeat track Blue Hai Paani Paani from the movie Yaariyan 2 is the most foolish song he has ever penned. " “It's nonsense. To be honest, look at all the songs; is there any substance?" Singh remarked in Hindi. He also mentioned that the song was composed and recorded in just 2 hours.
Discussing his other popular tracks like Lungi Dance and Party All Night, Yo Yo Honey Singh admitted that he was clueless about his work during that period, and individuals were appreciating him needlessly. "Now when I am asked to perform these songs, I laugh at myself because people are still crazy about these kinds of songs," Honey Singh revealed.
Most recently, the singer teamed up with Neha Kakkar and Guru Randhawa to release the track Hauli Hauli from the movie Khel Khel Mein.
