Due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, actor Diljit Dosanjh's new film, Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, will only be released in international markets. The film will not be shown in India. Diljit Dosanjh shared the film's trailer on social media on Sunday, along with the announcement of the release date.
Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, stemming from the Pahalgam terror attack, the film has been prohibited from being released in India.
On Sunday, Diljit Dosanjh posted the Sardaar Ji 3 trailer on Instagram, announcing the film's release date. The caption stated, "Sardaar Ji 3 Releasing 27th June OVERSEAS Only/ FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN." Check out the post here:
The Sardaar Ji 3 trailer on YouTube is geo-blocked in India, displaying the message, "The uploader has not made this video available in your country." However, the film's teaser and songs remain accessible. Notably, the teaser did not feature Hania Aamir, despite her presence in the trailer.
Sardaar Ji 3 stars Hania Aamir as a ghost hunter, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who is assigned to exorcise a spirit from a UK mansion. The film blends action and comedy, with romantic elements as Hania and Neeru Bajwa compete for Diljit's affection.
Scheduled for a global release on June 27, Sardaar Ji 3 faced controversy regarding its casting. The Pahalgam terror attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to a ban on Pakistani artists in India.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) requested that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withhold certification for the film, due to the presence of Pakistani actors Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela in the cast.
Consequently, the filmmakers opted to forgo the theatrical release of Sardaar Ji 3 in India. The film is now slated for an overseas release only, on June 27, 2025.
Following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, Hania Aamir's Instagram account was also blocked in India. The actress faced criticism for alleged anti-India comments made after Operation Sindoor.
In a letter to the CBFC, Prasoon Joshi, FWICE chief, said, "In light of recent directives issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B Ministry), prohibiting Pakistani-origin content and collaboration with Pakistani artistes in Indian productions, and the parallel stance adopted by FWICE, we urge CBFC to align with these directives and national interest considerations before proceeding with certification. We appreciate CBFC's impartial and rigorous certification process and trust that you will give due consideration to this request (sic)."
