Today BollyCurry gathers to celebrate the birthday of one of the most versatile and renowned singers of the Indian music industry, Shantanu Mukherjee (Shaan) aka Shaan!

Shaan was born in the year 1972 to a Bengali family in Madhya Pradesh. He is grandson to well known lyrcist Jahar Mukherjee, son to late music director Manas Mukherjee and brother to singer Sagarika Mukherjee. He is married to Radhika and has two sons- Soham and Shubh.

Shaan began his career as a child artist, singing jingles for advertisements after his father passed away. He gave up singing for a brief period only to return with remixes and song covers. In 1989, he sang a single line in the song, "Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari" for  Parinda. His career essentially began when he signed up with a music company along with his sister and started recording successful hit albums like Naujawan and Q-Funk. Later, Roop Tera Mastana, a remix album of R.D Burman's songs brought him further into the limelight. He launched Loveology soon after that. His second album, Tanha Dil appeared in charts within few days of its release and was very popular. Three years later, he launched another successful album Aksar which featured international stars like Blue, Mel C. and Samira Said. His "Musu Musu Haasi" and "Wo Pehli Baar" earned him immense popularity and there was no looking back for Shaan after that. Almost every hit movie in the last few years has had a hit track from Shaan. He has given his voice to many leading men in Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, among others. He has also recorded hit Kannada, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil film songs.

Tanha Dil earned him the Best Solo Album Award in 2000 at MTV Asia Music Awards. He is also the recipient of five Filmfare Awards for Best Playback Singer Male, three Zee Cine Awards and three IIFA Awards for the same category.
