Bollywood has always been blessed with many talented people who have donned many a caps during their stellar career - like Kishore Kumar who proved his mettle in all areas of film making, from acting to direction to singing. Another such name is Himesh Reshammiya, who started out as a music composer, followed a similar career graph and is one such multifaceted talent.
Born on 23rd July 1973 in Gujarat, Reshammiya took singing lessons from his father which was his first step into the world of arts and music. After moving to Mumbai, he worked in almost every aspect of TV serial production for popular channels and also released a music album. It was during his work for the mini screen that he made an acquaintance with Salman Khan who paved way for Reshammiya's entry in Bollywood.
Upon Khan's insistence, Reshammiya too was given an opportunity to compose tracks for Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), though Jatin-Lalit were working on the album primarily. The next few years saw this talented musician compose songs for a steady stream of Khan movies. The surprising popularity of Tere Naam (2003) was a game changer as he found himself receiving multiple nominations and awards at prestigious ceremonies. Two years later, it was his fortuitous singing jig for a low budget movie devoid of any of the superstars of Bollywood that gave him the biggest break yet - Aashiq Banaya Aapne (2005).
The title track of the same, sung by Reshammiya, raced to the top of the music charts and it was no real surprise when he was awarded the best male playback singer by Zee, IIFA and Filmfare that year. Ecstatic by the appreciation of the audience for his singing chops, he went onto release a music album Aap Ka Surroor (2006), which was also a hit. This also marked his foray into acting as he appeared in the music videos for the album, alongside then model Deepika Padukone. He followed this up with his entry onto the big screen with Aap Ka Surroor (2007), after which he has regularly starred in movies such as Karzzz (2008), Kajraare (2010) and The Xpose (2014), almost all of which missed the mark at the box office.
He has been working as a music composer all this while, churning out some good music for films such as Namastey London (2007), Bodyguard (2011), Bol Bachchan (2012) and Kick (2014). He has always tried to expand his boundaries on the professional front, having judged popular singing contests in the telly world which he continues to do with the new show The Voice India on &TV. On the personal front, he is married since the age of 21 to Komal who is a homemaker and has one teenage son, Swayam.
On the special occasion of his birthday, here is a playlist of some of his popular songs:
1. "Odhni" - Tere Naam
2. "Just Chill" - Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?
