It has been rightly said that one doesn't get older on their birthdays, but only better. Keeping these wise words in mind, we at BollyCurry come together to celebrate the birthday of two extremely popular members of the film fraternity, actress-singer Alia Bhatt and composer-singer Yo Yo Honey Singh!
Born to acclaimed
film-maker Mahesh Bhatt and his actor-director wife Soni Razdan on the 15th of
March, 1993, Alia Bhatt was born into one of the most illustrious film
families of the nation. She happens to be the step-sister of acclaimed
actor-director Pooja Bhatt, the niece of directors Vikram and Mukesh Bhatt,
and cousin to popular actor Emraan Hashmi.
Bhatt has gone on
record to say that she's been wanting to step into the world of glitz and
glamor for as long as she can remember. Her first silver screen outing,
unbeknownst to many, was actually in the film Sangharsh
(1999), where she played the younger version of Preity Zinta's
character, Preet Oberoi. She then stayed away from films till she finished her
schooling, post which she was signed for Karan Johar's directorial venture,
Student of the Year (2012) as the
female lead. Starring alongside then debutantes Varun Dhawan and Sidharth
Malhotra, the movie went on to perform well at the box office and propelled
the trio into instant stardom, but sadly, Bhatt's work was not noticed or
appreciated.
Her second outing
was with Imitiaz Ali's Highway in 2014,
where she played the role of a child abuse victim, who ends up falling
in
love with the ruffian who kidnaps her. The movie was an instant
success, and Bhatt
proved to the audiences that she was not just another pretty face! 2014
proved to be an extremely successful year for the young lass,
as she went on to star in two more blockbusters - 2 States alongside Arjun Kapoor and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania alongside her Student of the Year co-star, Varun Dhawan. These films
earned Bhatt a lot of adulation from both the critics and audiences alike,
and she received multiple nominations and awards for her impeccable portrayal
of the characters she essayed in these movies, including the prestigious
Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics), for her role in Highway.
Bhatt has also
ventured into playback singing, and lent her voice to the soothing
"Sooha
Saha", composed by A.R. Rahman. Her beautiful rendition of the song
quickly became a rage, and she followed it up by crooning for
"Samjhawaan
- Reprise" for Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania,
which was also met with praise and acclaim.
Bhatt is next slated to be seen opposite Shahid Kapoor in Phantom
Films' and Dharma Productions' upcoming venture, Shandaar,
scheduled to release later this year.
Born as Hirdesh
Singh, Yo Yo Honey Singh was born to a Sikh family in Hoshiarpur, Punjab in
1983. After growing up in Hoshiarpur, and moving to Delhi, Singh went on to study
Music at the Trinity School, United Kingdom, where he was introduced to a number
of Punjabi artistes. He collaborated with many of them, including
the likes of Jaz Dhami, Jazzy B, and Diljit Dosanjh. His rising popularity
found him many fans within Bollywood itself, and he soon forayed into the
Bollywood music industry with the popular track, "Sharaabi" from Cocktail (2012). He went on to compose and
sing many other songs in Bollywood, including the likes of "Lungi
Dance", "Party All Night", "Sunny Sunny", "Chaar
Botal Vodka", and "Alcoholic". Singh has also dabbled with acting, starring in a number of Punjabi movies, and also made an
appearance in the Himesh Reshammiya debacle, The
Xpose (2014). However, his acting was never as appreciated as his music and his work received mixed reviews from his
critics. Regardless, Singh has risen to the pinnacle of success and has won
many awards, national and international, for his work in the Punjabi Music
Industry as well as Bollywood.
To celebrate this
special day, we at BollyCurry, present a shandaar
