Actor
and recently turned producer, Abhishek Bachchan, celebrates his 37th birthday
on the 5th of February this year. Albeit being the son of Hindi film
legend Amitabh Bachchan and actress Jaya Bachchan or being the better
half of beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he has managed to make his own unique identity in tinsel town.Abhishek's
association with Bollywood was ordained since he was already a star kid; thus
he didn't need to struggle to bag his debut film Refugee in 2000, by J.P Dutta. This film also happened to be the
debut of the vivacious and beautiful Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film did well
and went on to become the fifth grossing film of that year. In the coming years, he did a
series of about 17 to 20 films which were steady failures. However, a few
films like Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon
and Mani Ratnam's Yuva gave him the much needed appreciation for
his courage to play varied roles. He won his first Filmfare award for
best supporting role for Yuva.
Amid these films, he happened to be paired opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who
proved to be lucky for him and their film Kuch
Naa Kaho, as it became one of the top grossing films of 2004.
He
has shared screen space with Aishwarya in numerous films including Bunty Aur Babli in an item number, Dhoom 2, Umrao
Jaan, Guru, Sarkar Raj thesequel
of Sarkar and Mani Ratnam's Raavan. A majority of these films did
well commercially and moved Abhishek's career along in the right path. His second
Filmfare best supporting actor award was for film Sarkar. Abhishek and Aishwarya might have starred in many films but
their relationship took a new turn during the shoots of Dhoom 2. It was during the shoot of this movie that they decided to tie the knot. Their wedding nuptials took place on 20th
April 2007, after which they were blessed with a baby girl named Aaradhya Bachchan in
2011.
Other
than these movies, he was seen in Rohan Sippy's Bluffmaster which was a moderate success, Karan Johar's multi-starrer Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna which gained him
his third Filmfare best supporting actor award, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom which didn't
impress audiences and finally Karan Johar's Dostana that turned out to be a blockbuster hit. It
also starred John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra alongside him.
2009
was a tremendous year as he started with a different concept in Delhi-6, which was
a failure but his versatility was much appreciated. The same year, he turned producer
with film Paa. This film saw dad Amitabh in a completely new
avatar wherein he played a young boy with the rare genetic condition of
Progeria, where the aging process if greatly accelerated. The film
centered on the father-son
relationship and for the first and perhaps last time, viewers could see
Abhishek playing Amitabh's father while Vidya Balan playing his mother.
This film was a huge
success and it won the National Award for Best Feature Film as well.
Next, we saw Abhi in films like Dum Maaro Dum, Game and Players which were box-office
disasters. However his last release Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan was a major commercial success. He was seen alongside
Ajay Devgn, Asin Tottumkal and Prachi Desai in the venture.
Abhishek
surely has an impressive career graph and we hope this year proves to be a brilliant
one for him. With this, Bollycurry wishes Abhishek Bachchan a very happy
birthday!
