Krushal Ahuja who is currently winning hearts with his stint as Anirudh in Star Plus' show Jhanak got in an exclusive chat with India Forums and spilled some beans on his journey in the world of hindi television. The handsome actor who hails from Kolkata, speaks about the differences in the working patterns of the Bangla and the Hindi industry and also reveals how he landed the character of Anirudh in Jhanak.
Can you share some insights into how you landed the role of Anirudh in Jhanak? What was the process like?
I was in Kolkata working on another project that wasn't progressing. The production house of Jhanak contacted me, shared details about the show, and asked if I would be interested. It all happened overnight; I auditioned, and the next day, they informed me that I was selected. Without much time to think, I liked the character and the compelling story they narrated, leading me to take up the role.
Having worked in regional shows prior to this, how do you perceive the differences between your previous projects and this being your second Hindi show?
One significant difference is the budget constraint in regional shows, limited to a specific area and audience. In Hindi television, we cater to a national audience, utilizing 2-3 cameras compared to a single camera in regional shows. Budget limitations often restrict certain elements, regardless of script requirements. Acting-wise, the emotions conveyed remain the same; the only difference is the language.
The show has been receiving positive numbers. How does it feel to witness such an overwhelming response?
It's fantastic. We expected a positive response, knowing that our execution would resonate with the audience. However, the rapid jump in TRP from 1.6 to 2.0 within two months is an incredible feeling. Our focus is on consistency and hard work, irrespective of TRP fluctuations. We do not want to do anything that is not natural, we just want to be consistent. Even if it is 1.6 we will work hard and even if it is 2.5 we will do the same thing and we will work equally hard. More TRP, less trp, we will do the same thing and that is: Work hard.
With your potrayal of Anirudh, you have gone ahead to be a crush for many female viewers. How do you handle the attention and appreciation?
Acha, aisa hai? (Giggles) Well, it feels nice. If that's the case, I hope more people who aren't watching the show start tuning in to see what they're missing.
While the ongoing track of the show has been engaging, some audience members feel it is a bit stretched. What are your thoughts on this feedback?
Life doesn't always unfold in a perfect way, and similarly, with storytelling, there might be parts that seem stretched. Like in personal lives, situations take time to resolve. I understand that everyone has a different perspective, and the creative field is subjective. However, our goal is to entertain, and we're working hard to do just that.

Are you originally from Mumbai, or did you move here for work? How has your experience been living and working in Mumbai?
I was born in Ayodhya, then moved to Lucknow and later to Kolkata. In 2016, I moved to Mumbai for work, completed my diploma from Actor Prepares, and gave auditions. After working in Kolkata for five years, I returned to Mumbai in 2023. I love Mumbai, although I find Kolkata's food more appealing. Workwise, Mumbai suits me better. There's no right or wrong; it's just my personal preference. I have yet to explore more differences, and maybe by our next interview, I'll have more to share.
