Ranbir Kapoor has been getting a lot of awards recently for his portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju, helmed by Rajkumar Hirani. However, a certain part of the audience has time and again called the film as a whitewashing tool for Sanjay's image in the public. Replying to the allegations, Sanjay recently told in an interview with Rajeev Masand that the film wasn't soft on him in any way. "I don't think Sanju was too soft on me. Because everything that was in my life, from guns and drugs to the case and jail, everything was shown," the actor mentioned.
When asked if Sanju treated serious crimes as humour, he said, "I think in my life there has been a lot of humour. Even when drugs is concerned. There are so many things that Raju has not shown which are more hilarious. It is a message saying that drugs are not good thing in life or it is important to know the laws. Don't make brass decisions, otherwise this is gonna happen. It was something I also wanted to tell the youngsters of today."

He pointed out, "I cried seeing a couple of scenes, especially when dad died. But it was a great experience to relive those days. So many things came to my mind." He concluded by saying that it is a great and humbling feeling that a biopic was made on him and stated, "I felt proud, but not because of the life I led. It made me feel that people love me. I am one of those lucky people who people love."
On the work front, Sanjay will next be seen in Kalank, co-starring Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapoor. It is slated to release on April 17.
