Like many other social issues, the problems within our education system is a major socio-economic issue. Education being the base of an individual, is not just about imparting knowledge but also about teaching the way of life. We all have watched Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan bringing such issues in light with his movies, Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots. Though both the movies had a different storyline but the only common aspect between them, was the hard-hitting reality of Indian education system and the stereotypical mindset of most Indian parents.

And when it comes to talking about social issues, our Television industry is not too far. Be it giving a superhit concept or praise-worthy performances, these creative minds are always up for a challenge and because of the creative liberty, web series are the latest to join the league.

As the new academic year is approaching, we have compiled a list of Indian TV shows and web series, which were based on education. Have a look here:

Laakhon Mein Ek

Laakhon Mein Ek is an Amazon Prime original series, created by standup comedian, Biswa Kalyan Rath. The first season of the series, centres around the struggles of a young boy named Aakash, who hails from Raipur but is forced to take coaching for IIT entrance exam in Visakhapatnam.

Kota Factory

Kota Factory is again an educational drama which became India’s first black and white show. It presents the dark reality of education in Kota and how preparing students for IIT-Jee, has become a business.

Sadda Haq

Harshita Gaur and Param Singh starrer Sadda Haq is a Television show, aired on Channel V in 2013. The story revolves around a girl named Sanyukta Aggarwal, who overcomes all hurdles to become a mechanical engineer. However, things are not easy for her as she has to fight the patriarchal mindset, which is even now prevalent in engineering colleges in India.

Suvreen Guggal : Topper of the Year

Suvreen Guggal is a Television series which aired on Channel V. The show produced by Gul Khan under her banner 4 Lions starred Smriti Kalra and Shivin Narang in lead roles. It was a campus drama which showcased the struggles of a young girl named Suvreen in her college and finally becomes a fashion designer.

Zabaan Sambhalke

Zabaan Sambhalke is a hindi sitcom, which ran between 1993 to 1998. The show starred ace actor Pankaj Kapur and Shubha Kote in pivotal roles. The story centred around an engineer, who is forced to teach Hindi language in a language school. The show brought different issues of cultural shock into light with a touch of humour.
