A PR stunt that would have probably been anticipated backlash has now managed to attract the maximum amount of flak it can, because it involved a celebrity faking her own death in order to draw attention to awareness around cervical cancer.
We are, of course, talking about Poonam Pandey, who has been the talk-of-the-town since the last couple of days due to firstly, announcing that she has passed away and then, saying that she is not and it was only done to draw attention to awareness around cervical cancer.
Almost unanimously, there has been a discontent towards Pandey and the PR companies attached to this campaign, which also includes a leading portal. And now, The All Indian Cine Workers Association has demanded an FIR against Pandey stating that her actions were “highly wrong" and “unacceptable". On Saturday, AICWA issued a statement via their official X handle and called for legal action not just against Poonam but her manager too. They condemned the publicity stunt and argued that “no one in the film industry stoops to such levels".
