Emraan Hashmi says the controversial Koffee With Karan Episode was just to teach Mahesh Bhatt a lesson

Emraan Hashmi and veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt made a notable appearance on Karan Johar’s popular chat show, Koffee With Karan 4. The episode became infamous due to the controversial answers given by Emraan during the rapid-fire round. In a recent interview, the actor disclosed that his responses were intended to teach Bhatt a lesson.

During a chat with Fever FM, Emraan Hashmi was asked about the rapid-fire round on Koffee With Karan 4. Reflecting on the moment, he recalled with a smile how the team paused for a 10-minute discussion after his rapid-fire responses, debating whether they could even air the segment. Ultimately, they decided to keep the answers.

When it was promoted  that his controversial answers might have been due to his younger age, Emraan clarified, “No, no. It was all in jest, and it was all to win the hamper. Every person I kind of dissed out over there is absolutely loved and respected by me. Bhatt saab was to be taught a lesson. I mean, so arrogant and cocky he was before that. He said that a chance in this rapid-fire was not stood by me, so I decided that I would show him who’s boss and I just let it rip.”

Asked if time has mellowed him, Emraan asserted that he would still give the same answers today, possibly even more fiercely. He pointed out that interviews today are more controlled due to the potential backlash on social media, leading to more "straight" and "safe" answers. However, he added, "But if you steer to that wild side of me, it will flow. It’s still there, you just have to awaken it and I will just go for the kill.”

Despite the controversy, Emraan emphasized that the show was all in good fun and his answers were meant to be taken sportingly.
