One of the big Dussehra releases is Jigra. Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina have come together for a jailbreak story with the backdrop of brother and sister love. The trailer was good, and people appreciated the work of filmmaker Vasan Bala. But the film has not worked with the audience. Many have said that Alia Bhatt is a misfit in an action movie. The first day collection is said to be a little more than a crore. Even trade experts have said that Jigra hardly had any buzz in the interior markets or tier two cities.
Divya Khossla has now put up a post on her Insta stories shading Alia Bhatt. She said that she went for a show and the theatres were empty. Divya said that Alia Bhatt has a lot of Jigra (courage/bravado) to announce fake collections. She said it looks like makers themselves bought bulk tickets and put up notice of collections. She said the media has to be ‘bought’ to overlook such a scenario. It should be noted that her movie Savi is also said to be inspired by Gumraah, which is also the ‘original’ version of Jigra. Gumraah was made by late Yash Johar in 1993 starring Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt. Mahesh Bhatt was the director.
Jigra was promoted in the Telugu markets by Rana Daggubati and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Alia Bhatt spoke about her close friendship with Ram Charan and what not. A day back, even Kangana Ranaut seemed to take a dig at the low collections of Jigra. She said that when certain camps try to stop women-oriented films this is what happens. Kangana Ranaut said it led to even their own female-led movies facing rejection. Jigra was already discussed a lot after Vasan Bala’s comment. He said that he had just shared a rough draft with Karan Johar, and the next thing he knew was that the script was with Alia Bhatt. Netizens said this is how nepotism works as all best scripts just go to one person. Alia Bhatt faced a lot of criticism on social media as did Karan Johar.
