It's a fact that sometimes the much in love couple in a movie is what either makes the film or breaks it. While there have been innumerable twosomes on the reel screen who we just can't get enough of, there are also some that downright make us want to cringe. So, after dishing out numerous articles on the wonderful jodis of Bollywood, BollyCurry now brings you, in no specific order, the disastrous jodis who just should not have been of 2012!
First
on our list are two very talented actors who have done very well for
themselves in the film industry. Individually. Coming together for
Ashwini Choudhary's Jodi Breakers, both were appreciated for
their performance but the movie itself did not garner any recognition.
The reason? There just was not any chemistry between the two. One could
feel the uncomfortable hard work oozing out of them in bid to show some
sort of chemistry. This couple is a definite no no on our list!
Karisma Kapur and Rajneesh Duggal
One
is a 90s superstar who was making a comeback and the other a four-film
old actor. The pairing started off all wrong when Karisma was touted to
be making her comeback in the Vikram Bhatt supernatural thriller, Dangerous Ishq,
opposite an actor who more looked like he could be her younger brother.
Nevertheless, this movie released and as expected tanked at the box
office. Most critics blamed the weak storyline and direction, but most
box office goers were quick to blame the pairing.
Rani Mukherjee and Prithviraj Sukumaran
Falling
in love with scents? Especially a man's body odor? Interesting theme
but the movie had it all wrong from the beginning and the pairing,
especially the dream sequence "Dreamum Wakeuppam," made it worse. The
two were easily the most criticized by both viewers and critics alike.
While the actors were praised for their earnest performances, the
chemistry and romance expected was severely lacking. In fact, the
dream sequence was claimed to be the coffin in the nail of this sinking
movie and couple. Well we can say one thing, this dream is one that
everyone woke up from quickly!
He
is already an established superstar of Bollywood and the other is
making quite a name for herself. However, sometimes, no matter how much
praise you garner, things are not always rosy. Same goes for this
couple. They both have superb acting skills but the magic that is needed
to create chemistry on the screen just did not triumph from these two,
which was proven in their movies Joker and Rowdy Rathore.
These
two have earned quite a name for themselves, not only for their acting
skills or the numerous controversies that the two have managed to pull
themselves into, but also because of their family lineage. While one is
the son of the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, the other is
the daughter of the jhakaas superstar Anil Kapoor. However, when we saw the two together for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6, and Abbas and Mustaan's Players, we
could not help but wonder why they were put together in a movie. The
two may do a great job working separately but here, it just did not cut
it. The chemistry was off and their acting in the scenes with each
other, well let's not comment on that. However, giving them the benefit
of the doubt, we can blame the haphazard script and hope that if these
two are ever paired together again, we get to see something more
exciting.
There
is definitely a mix reaction for these two. Not only did they look like
siblings, but Kareena actually seemed to look older than Imran, which
we have no problems with but if the script says you're younger, you
better make it believable! Starring together for Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu,
the two failed to create the right amount of magic for fans to click
with the characters. However, we can't deny that at some points they did
seem to have something going for them, especially during the lighter
moments of the movie. The movie itself did not do too bad, owing of the
storyline and an added bonus of the soundtrack which garnered much
praise. Maybe having these two in a more lighter concept might work in
their favor.
This jodi had
it all wrong from the beginning. Asin, who has always played the sweet
traditional girl, all of a sudden portrayed this westernized and modern
lady in both Housefull 2 and Khiladi 786 - Made in Punjab.
On the other side, Akshay was just Akshay. Mixing these two together
failed to create any sizzle or chemistry, though both movies did fairly
well at the box office. However, both critics and viewers were not
impressed with this couple's lackluster chemistry and romance. Most felt
that because of the movies' ensemble star cast, the characters and the
pair never got a chance to develop. In fact, most of the plot of both
movies was about their fighting rather than their romance, which was
needed to make this jodi a success. Nonetheless, we at BollyCurry can say that they do have potential, it just needs some developing.
Yes,
the entry of these two on our list might come as a shock to a lot of
people. Everyone knows that SRK has rightly proved he is the ultimate
King of Romance while Kat has made a very strong position for herself in
the industry as well. However, the two coming together for Jab Tak Hai Jaan
was a let down. Their romance on the big screen came as a
disappointment as they failed to develop the required chemistry that is
known to be the soul of all YRF films. Undoubtedly, the movie
was declared a hit, but we will not give the SRK/Kat jodi the
full credit. The sting comes in the form of Anushka Sharma, who was in
the film as well, and leaves the audience with the desire of more screen
time with King Khan. Other than her, let's just say, we miss SRK with
the likes of Kajol Devgn, Rani Mukherjee and other leading ladies of Bollywood.
And
that brings us to the end of our not-so-happening couples of 2012. It's
a known fact that with chemistry, you either have it or you don't and
the above just don't. But do let us know in comments who you think
should not be allowed to cohort on the silver screen and of any we may
have missed.
