This year the festival of lights, Diwali, is extra special for Bollywood. After a long gap of 12 years, two major films, Yash Raj Films' Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn Films' Son of Sardar released on the same day! Last time such much-awaited films released together on June 15th was back in 2001, when both the films, Gadar and Lagaan turned out to be blockbusters.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a romantic flick starring the King of Romance Shah Rukh
Khan along with the gorgeous ladies, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Being the last directorial of the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra makes this film even more special. The film revolves around Samar Anand (Shah Rukh Khan), who loves to play with his life by taking risks everyday in the long going battle he has with the almighty that had snatched away his ladylove Meera Thapar (Katrina Kaif) 10 years back. Years after separation, these two come face to face when a young, vibrant "super girl" Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma) comes into their lives.

Son of Sardar is yet another Bollywood romance drama; a remake of Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna. The film features Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha.  It's about the journey of Jassi (Ajay Devgn) who falls in love-at-first-sight with Sukhmeet (Sonakshi) and then later ends up as guest in her house which is full of comical sardars - The Sandhus. The head of the house, Billu paaji (Sanjay Dutt) wants to seek revenge on Jassi but their hands are tied from doing so as Jassi is their (unwanted) house-guest and guests should be treated like god as the saying goes.

Released on 2600 screens, Jab Tak Hai Jaan has emerged as a clear winner among the two all over India and overseas. But not by a huge margin, considering Son of Sardar was released at much fewer screens. Early estimates suggest, that the first day collections of Jab Tak Hai Jaan were around 15-16 Crores net while Son of Sardar will follow with an estimate first day earning of around 8-9 Crores.

BollyCurry wishes both the films a successful run and a very Happy and Prosperous Diwali and New Year to everyone!
