May 31 is No Tobacco day! While we're campaigning against tobacco for its many harmful effects, putting out disclaimers on film screens and TV, actors too take a strong stand. Making the day about awareness, we compiled a few statements you should be reading!

Here's what TV folks had to say about going tabacco free -

Everyone has heard the famous line from 'Maine Pyar Kiya', cigarette smoking is injurious to health (Sehat ke liye hanikarak hota hai). It's time we all follow it. Life is more important than the addiction. People shouldn't smoke at public places at all.

Anti-Tobacco day is surely a good idea to spread more awareness. The habit of smoking needs to be addressed at the root level.  At public places people end up passive smoking.

I am against smoking. It's sad that youngsters and even girls are addicted to it. I plead everyone to not to smoke and work on quitting the habit.

I am against tobacco and smoking. They are bad habits. Passive smoking can be injurious too. We must have awareness programs to make people leave the habit of smoking. People do get influenced by us actors.

Tobacco smoking is not only adversely affecting the smokers but the second-hand smokers as well because these second-hand smokers are involuntary smoking by inhaling the cigarette smoke of another individual or I must say, that they are being exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). This NO TOBACCO DAY I will take the initiative by alerting my family, friends, fans and unknowns both personally and through social media, about the ill effects of passive smoking. They need to be educated about how they can safeguard themselves by not smoking at home to reduce the health consequences of passive smoking on their family. Definitely, a single day makes a lot of difference and the most effective way to protect those around you from your smoking is to make quitting a priority! Why not start today on NO TOBACCO DAY?! Just think about your loved ones before lighting a cigarette and trust me you won't be able to light it.

Cigarette or tobacco smoking is injurious to health and we have been listening to it since our childhood but the addiction has proved that bad things/habits attract easily and are very tough to leave. As an educated human, I stay away from everything that affects my health. I'm progressive and I can only progress if I stay fit. So if we all want to see progressive a India then we have to be fit mentally and physically as well. Every youngster who wants to grow high in life has to take an oath that we will stay fit and will stay away from tobacco/cigarettes. Avoiding smoking cigarettes will help us keep our environment clean as well and we can avoid asthma or many kinds of body/skin infections that happen because of pollution.

There have been measures that are being taken to spread the awareness. Like there are so many ads and short films that constantly play in theaters and on TV which has been able to play an instrumental role. There are many awareness programs and ways to quit smoking which people are adopting. People themselves have become relatively more conscious about their hair and skin, so they themselves avoid it. Cigarette prices have also increased. Though we have one No Tobacco Day but the government and other sectors are taking deterrent steps to make a healthy environment.

Smoking is bad for health and everyone knows it. Yet people don't want to leave the habit. Actors can influence their fans for sure as fans do imitate their favorite actors. I always discourage my friends to smoke. No one can quit in one day but the effort needs to be made by taking an initiative.

One day can make a change, one minute can make a change. One decision to flip to the other side can make a change. Awareness is important because people still don't know the damaging effects of it. On my part, I always discourage people around me from smoking because I also end up becoming a passive smoker. It is a little effort but it starts with you.

I had a maid who was sixty years old at least. She used to chew tobacco all the time. I used to get very upset with her and I tried really hard to educate her about the side effects of it. Recently I heard she had cancer and did not survive. I was broken and was wondering if I could have stopped her by being more aggressive about it. But then everyone told me that when the addiction reaches this point then it requires a lot of determination to stop. I just think that any addition can be reversed and a healthy life can be restored if the determination to live healthy for your loved ones is high. I know a few close people who fought the battle of cancer and won. But their encounter with death has made them realize the importance of life.

Smoking should ideally be banned. In spite of the awareness, people indulge in it. Passive smoking is also equal to smoking and affects everyone around. I ensure no one smokes around me whenever I can.

*Tobacco kills nearly six million people each year, of which more than 6,00,000 are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke.
