Celebs upset over losing blue tick: Is Twitter's blue tick verification badge losing its value?

Many Bollywood actors have lost the blue tick on Twitter for being non-paying members. According to the new rules, Twitter verification mark will be a paid service, costing USD 8 per month via the web and USD 11 per month through the in-app payment on iOS and Android.

Many celebrities have lost their blue ticks due to this policy change, stirring up controversy on the platform.

Some celebrities, like Vir Das, have expressed that they are okay with losing the verification badge, as they believe their work and content should speak for itself.  Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das said, "I like this world. To verify an artist, buy tickets, not ticks...Bye blue tick. I’m okay with someone impersonating me on twitter. You deal with the things they call me ..How about this? If you like what I’m saying…it’s the real me. If you’re pissed off/offended/looking to take action/going to complain to some sort of metaphorical papa…..this account belongs to an unverified impersonator. Cool?"

However, others, like Nargis Fakhri, have raised concerns that the blue tick has lost its value if anyone can obtain it by paying a fee. She said, "I never really come on here. I just noticed I’m no longer verified with that blue thingy. So now everyone with a blue check pays a fee for it. Hmm okay. if anyone can buy it then what’s the point."

While Aditi Rao Hydari wrote, "Once upon a time there was a blue tick… did @Twitter and I live happily ever after?! 😜 #GoFigure" Ravi exclaimed, "Why me ..???? Blue tick gone ????????????? Mr musk ????"

According to a report from Variety, it was announced that the microblogging site would remove the verified check-mark status of accounts that Twitter had confirmed as notable before Elon Musk's takeover unless they have subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan.
