BollyCurry is pleased to shine its light on this month's Celebrity in the Spotlight. He is not only one of the most celebrated actors that the Bollywood industry has ever had but also a person whose name is undoubtedly going down in platinum letters - Salman Khan. The man is a brand himself and thus, needs no words for an introduction.
After a constantly dipping career, Khan made a breakthrough
with the 1994 blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! The sweet and
naughty Prem (the character Khan portrayed to perfection) managed to woo the
hearts of millions; whilst the movie went on to become the biggest hit of the
year. That year also saw the release of the comic success Andaz Apna
Apna, a movie whose remake is being eagerly awaited by the fans.
In 1995, Khan starred in Karan Arjun, which
was also a big money digger at the box-office. Khamoshi: The Musical(1996)
was a critically acclaimed movie under the direction of the diligent Sanjay
Leela Bhansali. Khan continued to work in four to five films every year, with a
few of them doing well while the others being a disappointment. An extended
cameo in Karan Johar's directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1999)
bagged Khan his second Filmfare for Best Supporting Actor.
Some movies like Hum Saath Saath Hain: We Stand
United(1999), Biwi No. 1(1999), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam(1999)
were commercial successes, while a few others like Har Dil Jo Pyar
Karega(2000), Chori Chori Chupke Chupke(2000) boast of Khan's
ability to pull of the various characters. Khan also earned commendable
critical reviews for his performance in Tere Naam(2003).
The year 2009 brought immense changes in Khan's
deteriorating career with Prabhu Deva's directorial debut Wanted. After
two commercial failures Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and London
Dreams, Khan gave five back to back commercially successful record holders
- Dabangg(2010), Ready(2011), Bodyguard(2011), Ek
Tha Tiger(2012) and Dabangg 2(2012). His latest stint Jai
Ho, in the year 2014 was not only a commercial but moral success as
well.
Khan has hosted a few television shows that have helped
raise the TRPs of the respective channel to great heights. Some of these
include 10 Ka Dum and Bigg Boss. Apart from this, Khan has also
helped groom some of the finest actors, directors and singers by mentoring them
in their early stages. As a philanthropist, Khan is associated with a number of
NGOs, his Being Human is one of the most famous amongst them.
Did You Know?
- Khan initially wanted to be a screenwriter like his father and had no plans to go anywhere near acting.
- From his father's side, Khan is a Pathan but from his mother's side, he is a Maharashtrian Hindu.
- Khan's alternative career could've been swimming, as he was a swimming champion in school with the capability to represent India internationally.
- Khan is said to have mentored the most number of people and pushed them into the Bollywood industry.
Salman Khan's upcoming flick Kick is much awaited
with bated breath by millions. The trailers and the songs have already set a
benchmark and the movie itself is expected to be surreal.
BollyCurry wishes Khan and his forthcoming projects
impeccable success and triumph. Salute to the man who has ruled many hearts
over the years. You too are invited to fill up the space below with your love
and wishes for this amazing actor.
