The Bollywood box office witnessed a mixed bag of results over the weekend as two much-anticipated films, 'Mission Raniganj' and 'Thank You For Coming,' hit the silver screen on October 6th. While expectations were high, the reality at the ticket counters tells a different story.
'Mission Raniganj,' headlined Akshay Kumar, unfortunately, stumbled at the starting line. The film recorded a lackluster opening weekend, with estimated three-day collections hovering around Rs 11.75 crore. The disappointing journey began with an underwhelming Rs 2.75 crore on Friday. The situation improved slightly on Saturday, with collections reaching Rs 4.25 crore, followed by Rs 4.75 crore on Sunday.
While a sub-Rs 3 crore opening day was a cause for concern, there was a glimmer of hope for the film if it managed to exhibit an encouraging weekend trend. However, despite decent word-of-mouth and on-ground reports, 'Mission Raniganj' struggled to attract a significant audience base. Even with a cricket match taking place on Sunday, which might have affected the box office numbers, there wasn't enough traction to give the film a substantial boost. Moreover, hold-over releases like 'Jawan' and 'Fukrey 3' managed to maintain their audience despite the cricketing excitement.

The weekend's second release, 'Thank You For Coming,' also faced a lukewarm reception. The film, featuring Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh, Shibanai Bedi and Kusha Kapila, struggled to make a mark at the box office, with three-day collections in the range of Rs 3.05 crore. 'Thank You For Coming' opened with Rs 75 lakh on Friday, experienced a modest jump to Rs 1.10 crore on Saturday, and saw a minor bump to Rs 1.20 crore on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the film's business trajectory doesn't paint an encouraging picture for its future prospects. Despite the strong female-centric theme and star power, 'Thank You For Coming' faces an uphill battle to find its footing in the competitive box office landscape.
While the star power of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar couldn't propel these films to blockbuster status, the coming weeks will reveal whether they can recover and find their place in the hearts of the audience.
